The Red Bull F1 team has been on a downward trajectory since Round 10 of the 2024 F1 season. They have not won a Grand Prix since the last seven races and their star driver Max Verstappen is having a torrid time behind the wheel of the RB20.
The 26-year-old ended his Azerbaijan GP exploits in P5 and was pretty much in a no man’s land. He was not able to put any kind of pressure on the front runners and was even passed by Lando Norris who started his race in P15 in comparison to Verstappen’s P6.
Seeing Verstappen’s sorry state, the 1997 F1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve has asserted that the former has lost his fighting spirit.
He sounds downbeat. He doesn't fight that hard. Even on the radio, you barely hear him. So something has changed. It's as if he knows he hasn't won.Jacques Villeneuve via GPblog.
Verstappen’s issues with the RB20 are just not coming to an end and during the whole Baku weekend, he was on several occasions seen barking on the team radio. Moreover, the 51-lap race turned out to be quite painful for him.
Max Verstappen feels Red Bull can ‘constantly fight for wins’ going forward
While Jacques Villeneuve is not quite pleased with the ‘downbeat’ Max Verstappen, the latter is not giving up. After the Baku race, he is focusing on the positives and thus, feels his teammate Sergio Perez‘s outing is proof enough that Red Bull can once again fight for wins.
Okay, admittedly we did not win. But Checo was competing for the win. So I think from now on we can constantly compete for wins if we know how to improve the car step by step.Max Verstappen via GPblog
The reigning world champion is currently leading the driver’s championship by a margin of 59 points. Red Bull has slipped to second in the Constructors but Verstappen is not ready to give up this title as well.
He is going to fight tooth and nail in the remaining seven races to again get ahead of McLaren in the Championship. Keeping in view everything that has been discussed, fireworks could go off between the top teams at this week’s Singapore GP.
