The finish line is just about within sight of the reigning world champion Max Verstappen. He is leading the 2024 drivers’ championship by 62 points and in line with this, ex-F1 driver Jacques Villeneuve has backed him to finish off the title tussle at next week’s Las Vegas GP.
McLaren’s Lando Norris has fought valiantly in making a serious challenge for the coveted title. However, what transpired at the Brazlian GP has pretty much allowed Max Verstappen to at least get one of his hands on the coveted championship.
The 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve genuinely feels Verstappen could really amass his fourth-consecutive title in Las Vegas.
Verstappen has had an extremely up-and-down 2024 F1 season. However, despite all the challenges, he has pushed through with grit and determination to put himself in a commanding lead in the standings with the aid of the inconsistent RB20.
Max Verstappen and Lando Norris are ‘deserving champions’
While Villeneuve has backed Verstappen to get the job done in Las Vegas, he has also not shied away from applauding Lando Norris. The Canadian believes that both the contenders are worthy of winning the title.
Norris has so far managed to amass 331 points in comparison to Verstappen’s 393.
The reigning world champion will equal Sebastian Vettel‘s F1 record when he wins the 2024 drivers’ championship. The German racked up four titles consecutively with Red Bull between 2010-2013 and Verstappen is on the verge of doing the same.
From Norris’s perspective, he will try to go gung-ho once again during the 2025 F1 season. The Woking-based McLaren outfit currently has the fastest car on the grid and if this happens to be the case again, the Brit might finally be able to amass his maiden world title title next year.
