Former Canadian driver Jacques Villeneuve has harshly critiqued the FIA in light of McLaren driver Lando Norris‘ performance at the Brazilian GP. Norris finished P6 at Interlagos after a disappointing run under wet weather conditions last week.
Lando Norris started the Brazilian GP in pole position, looking to secure his fourth win of the campaign. But his hopes quickly switched during a red flag because of the adverse weather conditions. The 25-year-old’s early pitstop was therefore useless, as the halt provided a free opportunity to others.
Jacques Villeneuve has since defended Norris, slamming the flaw in the regulations of the FIA post-race. He believes that the Brit could not have done anything to make up for the lost pace once the race resumed after the red flag.
Norris now heads into the last three races with a 62-point deficit in the drivers’ championship. While his individual expectations might be over, he will look to selflessly partake in helping his team win the constructors title.
Former team boss urges Lando Norris to not be too harsh on himself
Former Alpine F1 team principal Otmar Szafnauer has offered some words of advice to a distraught Lando Norris. Norris despite being a top driver, has faced major criticism for his lack of awareness during races this season.
Otmar Szafnauer has listened to Norris, thus deriving the conclusion that the latter is too harsh on himself. He thinks that the 25-year-old deserves credit for what he has achieved and has urged him to have a positive outlook.
The Brit has often doubted himself after committing mistakes during a race. His fans and the Woking-based team have nevertheless remained constant in supporting his ambitions. With self-belief and confidence, Norris might revive his capabilities and challenge wholly for a title in the coming years.
