Red Bull began the 2024 season with a frenzy going on over at Milton Keynes. Team CEO, Christian Horner was accused of conducting inappropriate behavior with a colleague, which subsequently led to rifts forming inside the team. This resulted in design genius, Adrian Newey announcing his exit and spooling rumors regarding his move to another team. Amidst such rumors, Jeremy Clarkson revealed that instead of moving to Ferrari, Newey is on the hunt for a move to Oxfordshire.
Adrian Newey‘s designs have won more than two dozen championships in the F1 sphere. Apart from this, he is often known for his vast experience and has aided in the production of concept cars. On the other hand, the 65-year-old had recently unveiled a deadline, by which he would announce his next career move.
Newey was understood to be in advanced talks with both Ferrari and Aston Martin. However, Jeremy Clarkson claimed that the paddock rumors are pointing in the wrong direction regarding the Red Bull designer’s future.
I know, Adrian Newey is house hunting in Oxfordshire [and] not Maranello.Jeremy Clarkson said in an interview with Viaplay
The 64-year-old revealed that his compatriot is hunting for a spot on the grid. However, his next move would not be to move to Maranello, as the paddock had anticipated, but instead to Oxfordshire. On the other hand, Alpine, Williams, and Haas have their HQs in Oxfordshire, but Alpine and Williams are understood to be leading the charge in a race to sign the design wizard.
Is Adrian Newey a ‘messiah’ for F1 teams under the ground effect era?
The designs made by Newey are dominating the sport. Moreover, he has been the only designer with vast knowledge of the time when porpoising was a major factor. Owing to his experience, some within the paddock have reckoned him as a messiah while others think otherwise.

Mercedes team principal had been rumored to get Newey. However, he claimed that they didn’t need a messiah in the form of the Brit to save their dwindling championship charge.
I think no team can discard Adrian[Newey], but he needs to fit into the organisation and he needs to want it. I think you’ve always got to look at opportunities, but it’s not like that today we wait for a messiah.Toto Wolff said in an interview with Sky Sports F1
Toto Wolff began by admitting that no team can dismiss the possibility of hiring the 65-year-old. However, he was convinced that an alliance would only work if both parties could form a symbiotic relationship. Thus, the organizational structure should accommodate such changes in a similar way to how Red Bull had accommodated it.
Despite the concerns, no one can neglect the Brit’s expertise, and would dearly want to sign him to help their 2026 designs. So a decision before the winter break would explain where the design legend is headed amid his increasing market value.
