Lando Norris and Max Verstappen have had a fierce rivalry for the 2024 title. Norris hoped to finally clinch his maiden world championship this season. However, Dutch racing driver Jeroen Bleekemolen highlighted that the McLaren driver threw away his chances.
Bleekemolen recalled the Brazilian GP weekend, where Norris did win the Sprint race. However, on Sunday, things changed drastically. Despite starting from pole position, Lando Norris was nowhere close to Max Verstappen who won the race from P17 on the grid.
Jeroen Bleekemolen admitted that the McLaren driver did get unlucky with the red flag. Though, he insisted that Norris had thrown away a chance to make the championship battle wide open. As the Briton now trails Max Verstappen by 62 points with just three races remaining.
Lando Norris tried to recover ‘too quickly’ against Max Verstappen at Interlagos
Bleekemolen reckoned that when Norris saw Max Verstappen get ahead of him due to the red flag, the Briton must’ve had a ‘short-circuit’ of thoughts. The 25-year-old would’ve tried to find a fix to this too quickly in the race, which inevitably did not work out. As such, this only made things worse for the McLaren star.
Lando Norris’ chances to win the 2024 title are fading. The 25-year-old would be lucky to stay in title contention after the next race in Las Vegas. It might be better for the Briton to shift his focus to the next season to defeat Verstappen.
