Max Verstappen was crowned the 2024 Formula 1 world champion at the Las Vegas GP. The 27-year-old finished fifth in the race to secure his fourth title in a row. Now, the Dutchman’s father Jos Verstappen has voiced his concerns over Red Bull’s current situation.

The senior Verstappen pointed out that Red Bull did not have the quickest car in the latter half of the season. The 52-year-old claimed that Max Verstappen would’ve been winning races consistently had the team sustained its pace advantage till the end of the year.

They [Red Bull] are not running the fastest car at the moment, otherwise he [Max Verstappen] would be winning races.

Moreover, Jos Verstappen made it clear that some things need to happen at Milton Keynes for 2025, if the Austrian team wants to be competitive. He reckoned that the tough campaign this season showed Max Verstappen’s ability to manage difficult situations. As the 27-year-old took the title with two races to go despite Lando Norris‘ impressive run.

For next year some things have to happen for them to be competitive again. It also shows again how Max handles it and how strong he is.

I want to see it first next year. We started this year very well and then only slipped. It’s up to the team to show how they are going to be next year.

Jos Verstappen explained

Certainly, Max Verstappen and Red Bull cannot take things lightly heading into 2025. Milton Keynes is on the backfoot considering the impressive pace shown from Mercedes and Ferrari. As such, it remains to be seen if the Austrian giant can come back stronger next year.
