Max Verstappen heads into the 2025 season as a four-time defending world champion with a Red Bull’s team that has hit its peak of the era. Lewis Hamilton‘s move to Ferrari might provide challenges to Verstappen in his championship chase, as the veteran is expected to contend for the title. However, ex-F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya believes Verstappen won’t be a threat to Hamilton this season.

Lewis Hamilton could finally contend for the drivers’ title with Ferrari after a championship slump with Mercedes over four years. Red Bull’s massive performance struggles might carry over in the 2025 season and disable Max Verstappen‘s winning chances.

Juan Pablo Montoya didn’t hesitate to claim that the four-time consecutive world champion wouldn’t be a problem for Hamilton. Montoya insists that Red Bull’s performance in the 2025 season, resembling their dominance of the ground-effect era, would be surprising. The Colombian recalled Aston Martin-bound Adrian Newey’s comments, stating that the issues at Milton Keynes were more complex than anticipated.

Max Verstappen is not going to be Lewis’s problem this year, I’d be surprised if Red Bull comes out swinging like the last few years, Adrian Newey came out the other day saying that the problems at Red Bull are not as simple as they think it is.

Juan Pablo Montoya told OnlineCassino.com.

Red Bull will ‘never get out of the hole’ with wrong basics

Red Bull continued to implement multiple changes in the mediocre RB20 chassis to gain any possible advantage. However, the Austrian constructor lost massive grounds and succumbed to a P3 finish in the constructors’ championship.

Montoya asserts that Red Bull would have to put efforts into what they believe was the cause of the issue. The 49-year-old emphasized that Milton Keynes risked moving backward or even sideways if they continued to develop their chassis with the wrong basics.

At some point, they have just got to go: ‘This is what we believe in, and this is where we’re going to put an effort in, and this is what we’re going to do, and this is what’s going to happen. You just start moving sideways or even backwards. If you keep going forward based on the wrong basics you’re never going to get out of the hole.

Juan Pablo Montoya noted.

Red Bull must find improvement on their tumultuous pace in the previous year to help Verstappen continue his winning streak. The final year of the ground-effect era will witness maximum competition on the grid from the likes of Ferrari and McLaren. The team will have to deem a great start to the season despite the massive personnel changes.
