Lewis Hamilton joins Ferrari after an underwhelming time in Formula 1. The seven-time world champion has struggled in the sport’s ground-effect era since 2022. Now, former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya has made a bold claim over Hamilton’s ability to defeat Max Verstappen this year.
The British driver had a frustrating final campaign with Mercedes. Despite winning two races and ending his 945-day winless streak, Hamilton was just not comfortable with the car. So much so, that he even considered quitting the campaign before the end of the season.
Montoya reckoned that if Ferrari produces a fast car this year, fans will witness the Lewis Hamilton ‘of old,’ from the days of the Briton’s dominance in F1. Juan Pablo Montoya claimed that even Max Verstappen won’t be able to defeat this version of the seven-time world champion.
Juan Pablo Montoya reveals biggest question for Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton
The former F1 driver hoped that the Scuderia can make Hamilton comfortable this year. However, Montoya asserted that there was still a big question mark over this situation. The Columbian speculated how Maranello will manage to keep the British driver motivated over the course of the upcoming season.
So far, Lewis Hamilton has seemed determined to have a positive campaign this year. The seven-time world champion has made his on-track debut for Ferrari. Though, the real test will only begin once the 2025 Ferrari hits the track during pre-season testing this month.
