Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso are undoubtedly two of the best drivers in the history of Formula 1. Both world champions share a good relationship on and off the track. However, former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya reckons that Verstappen could replace the Spanish driver in the future.
Alonso is 43 years old. The two-time world champion has a lucrative deal with Aston Martin that extends till the end of 2026. Pablo Montoya asserted that Fernando Alonso cannot be the long-term future of the Silverstone-based team due to his age.
Subsequently, Juan Pablo Montoya suggested that Lawrence Stroll‘s team needs to find the perfect fit after signing Adrian Newey and a Honda works deal. The Colombian insisted that Max Verstappen would be the perfect bet for Aston Martin, considering the Dutchman is at the peak of his career. The ex-McLaren driver highlighted that Verstappen should be given a similar deal to Newey’s shareholding offer.
Juan Pablo Montoya claims Max Verstappen will increase Aston Martin’s ‘worth’
Aston Martin is one of the most iconic carmakers in the world. The British automaker’s fortunes have turned around since Lawrence Stroll’s takeover in 2020. Juan Pablo Montoya insisted that arrival of Max Verstappen would further boost the company’s value. As having the biggest name of the sport would do wonders commercially.
Certainly, Max Verstappen might be willing to jump ship to Aston Martin in the future. The three-time world champion would be ready to ditch Red Bull if the Silverstone-based team provides him with better machinery. However, such a move is unlikely at least for the short term.
