Max Verstappen won the 2024 world title after a hard-fought battle against Lando Norris. The Dutch driver had a few skirmishes with Norris over the course of the season. Now, former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya has claimed that Red Bull does not mind Verstappen’s collisions.

The four-time world champion had a major crash with Norris at the Austrian GP this year. Moreover, at the Mexican GP, Max Verstappen was handed a 20-second penalty for his collision with the McLaren driver.

Juan Pablo Montoya insisted that Verstappen made other drivers ‘crazy’ with his on-track aggression. The Columbian pointed out that the Dutch driver barely made mistakes. Additionally, Montoya reckoned that Red Bull was happy whenever the 27-year-old had a crash during a wheel-to-wheel battle.

Verstappen drives them crazy. First of all, he doesn’t make a lot of mistakes or any. And secondly, he’s comfortable crashing, and the team is happy if he crashes.

Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris not like Max Verstappen

Juan Pablo Montoya compared Verstappen to Norris and Charles Leclerc. The former F1 driver highlighted that both drivers did have the speed to take victories whenever they have a good car. However, Norris and Leclerc simply could not defeat Max Verstappen in intense wheel-to-wheel battles.

Charles and Lando are very similar where they have amazing ultimate speed that when things line up, they can win the races. They have enough speed to get the job done. But they’re not the guy that is going to go wheel to wheel and come out ahead.

Juan Pablo Montoya explained

The Dutch driver did secure the championship easily in the final leg of the season. Though, Max Verstappen and Red Bull have a target on their backs next season. It remains to be seen if the 27-year-old is forced to pull off aggressive on-track maneuvers in 2025.
