McLaren headed into the Singapore GP weekend with great hopes of fighting for the race win. Both Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris tried their best in the Qualifying session but could only achieve a P3 and P5 start for the main race.
As such, both drivers had a difficult day in terms of contending for the race win. To make matters worse, Norris collided with Piastri on Lap 1 and caused the latter to lose his P3 position on track. Now, the Briton has come clean and provided his side of the story amid the incident.
Lando Norris seemed to have a better race start and made a daring move against Oscar Piastri to clinch the P3 position on Lap 1. Right at the beginning of the race, Norris collided with Piastri, and the latter had to cede positions and let the Briton by.
The Aussie was left seething after the incident and asked the team to intervene and give him back the spot. However, McLaren refused to do so, and the 24-year-old could only finish in P4 by the end of the Singaporean GP.
Lando Norris opened up on the incident and why things happened the way they did. The Briton did not comment much on the matter during the race and believed that he was not in the wrong at all.
The Marina Bay Circuit is regarded as one of the more difficult street circuits to excel on, but Norris showcased his racing talent and made a daring move that made all the difference in his race results. Although the 25-year-old was accused by Oscar Piastri of being in the wrong, the former was least concerned with the comments.
Speaking on the Lap 1 incident, Lando Norris pointed out that the track was very slippery in a lot of places. Further, the Briton noted that the incident with Oscar Piastri was all part of racing, and hence he forced his car into the inside line of the latter. Norris claimed that he had a moment of minor correction, and there were no ulterior motives with the desperate move.
[Lap 1] it was slippery, so wet in lots of places. It is racing, I put it on the inside, had a small correction and nothing more than that. Yeah, that’s it.
Lando Norris said in a post-race interview.

Following a P3 finish in Singapore, Lando Norris has further reduced the point disparity to Oscar Piastri. The two drivers are now just 22 points apart from one another.
Now with just six races left in the 2025 calendar, it will be interesting to witness how the title battle pans out between the two McLaren drivers. To make it interesting, Max Verstappen is also seemingly in the mix for the title as he cannot be discounted yet.
