Lando Norris narrowly missed out on the pole position for the Spanish GP against his teammate, Oscar Piastri. The Briton committed some mistakes in his final fast lap, which caused him to lose over two-tenths of lap time against Piastri. Still, the long straight at the start of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya circuit means that Norris has plenty of opportunity to overtake his Australian counterpart.

Lando Norris performed well during the session as he still has a front-row start right behind his teammate. While the two drivers are ready to race one another hard this year, they will still have to prioritize maximum points first. Max Verstappen is right behind the two Papaya drivers in third, as anything can happen heading into Turn 1.

Lando Norris has also issued a stern warning to Oscar Piastri heading into the first major turn of the Spanish GP. Norris reckons that there is a long run to Turn 1 as the two McLaren drivers are likely to closely compete for staying in front. The Briton highlighted that the Turn 1 battle would be highly interesting.

In addition to this, Norris asserted that there are a lot of quick drivers right behind them, especially Max Verstappen. The Briton backtracted on his claims of struggling with the McLaren MCL39 as he finally accepted that they have a strong race car. Not only this, the 25-year-old insisted that their car is the best one on the grid as depicted by their pace.

It’s a long run down to Turn 1, it is normally interesting and we have a lot of quick guys behind us. We do [have a strong race car], we have the best one.

Norris didn’t hesitate to acknowledge that Oscar Piastri just drove very well and more than deserved to win the pole position. The Briton asserted that despite having the pace to achieve the first-place start, he committed a couple of mistakes. This, coupled with Piastri’s sublime drive, caused a somewhat disappointing end to the 25-year-old’s Qualifying.

Oscar drove very well. The pace was there, just a couple of mistakes and yeah, didn’t do it.
