Lando Norris has a point to prove in the 2025 F1 season. The British driver has the best chance to win the world championship after a failed title bid against Max Verstappen last year. Despite kicking things off with a stellar victory at Albert Park, the McLaren star has made it clear that he is not thinking too far just yet.
Norris became the first driver to lead the F1 drivers’ standings apart from Max Verstappen since 2022 after winning the Australian GP. McLaren are considered to be the favorites this season, with the 25-year-old’s drive in Melbourne only solidifying such claims.
The British driver recognized that it was great for him to finally lead the championship. However, Lando Norris made it clear that the standings didn’t mean anything for now. He pointed out that he has never managed to clinch the F1 title in his career so far. As such, Norris simply did not care about leading the points table until he wins the championship.
Itβs great. Doesnβt mean anything. Iβve not won it [the championship], so, I donβt really care at the minute.
Lando Norris said during post-race press conference
Lando Norris managed to pull off a brilliant performance last weekend. The 25-year-old faced immense pressure from Verstappen, particularly in the final two laps when the Dutchman was less than a second away. However, the McLaren star kept calm and did not crack. This allowed him to take the win at Albert Park.
Lando Norris refuses to reveal McLaren’s improvement areas for 2025
McLaren won its first constructors’ title since 1998 last year after the Woking-based squad created an incredible car. However, the reigning world champions recognize that the competition will only get tougher this year. As such, the MCL39 is a step up from its predecessor.

Yet, Lando Norris was not keen on revealing which areas the team worked upon over the winter break. He made it clear that such information was to be confined to Woking. The 25-year-old pointed out that the entire team including engineers, strategists, and mechanics work tirelessly to gain more performance. Though, this was not something he needed to share to the media.
Thatβs for us. Thatβs not something I need to share. The team works very hard to improve. Strategy engineers, mechanics. I donβt need to say these things to the media.

Moreover, Norris insisted that he never interferes with the work done by the McLaren crew. The Briton highlighted that this system worked both ways as the crew let him work hard on areas where he needed to improve. Lando Norris declared that he was not going to reveal any information over crucial areas of the car which his team members have dedicated their life towards.
I let them do their job. Itβs the same as when I work hard to improve in areas I do. Some things I say, some I donβt. People spend a lot of time, they dedicate their lives to this. Iβm not going to give away how people work and improve to be the best in their sport or job.
Lando Norris noted
Certainly, the 25-year-old respects the work done by his team to ensure he gets a race-winning car. Moreover, Norris understands that giving away even a single hint could allow rivals to get an idea and potentially try to copy McLaren’s developments.
Lando Norris remains favorite for Chinese GP
The British driver has got a solid start to the season. There is still a long way to go before Norris can comfortably see himself winning the world championship. However, so far, McLaren is undoubtedly in the best position compared to the rest of the grid, including Red Bull and Ferrari.

Formula 1 heads to the Chinese GP this weekend. Lando Norris has never won in Shanghai but would hope to finally emerge victorious this time around. The MCL39 will likely be the quickest car over the course of the race weekend, giving Norris and teammate Oscar Piastri an edge over the competition.
The British driver must remain focused and hope for a clean weekend without making any errors. Last race showed that Lando Norris can manage in high-pressure situations, something he struggled with last season. As such, Norris will be the favorite heading into the Chinese GP weekend, though one can never rule out someone like Max Verstappen.
