McLaren’s 2024 season has enabled the team to fight for the constructors’ championship. Additionally, Lando Norris is also closing in on Max Verstappen for the drivers’ championship. However, the team has had multiple failed strategies that saw them miss out on crucial points. Regardless, Norris is confident that the team has a good plan for the championship battle.
Lando Norris noted that team orders weren’t as simple as people interpreted. The Englishman pointed out that Oscar Piastri was fighting for his own championship and career, which meant the Australian wouldn’t be able to provide him with a free pass during the remaining races of the season.
A lot of people think [team orders] are simple and they are not. Oscar is a driver fighting for his own championship and own career.Lando Norris said during an Azerbaijan GP interview
Red Bull’s struggle has caused the team to lose ground at the top and cut the point disparity to just eight points. McLaren will set their eyes on the top spot if the Milton Keynes outfit continues to be in a slump. Norris believes that the end result depends on multiple scenarios.
It depends on what positions we are fighting for and many different scenarios, but we have a good plan.
Lando Norris added
Norris: "A lot of people think [team orders] are simple and they are not. Oscar is a driver fighting for his own championship and own career. It depends on what positions we are fighting for and many different scenarios, but we have a good plan."

Lando Norris revealed the way he wanted to ‘win the world championship’
Lando Norris is currently just 62 points behind the struggling Max Verstappen, putting him in a good spot to oust the reigning world champion by the end of the season. The Briton claimed that he wanted to win the championship by fighting against Verstappen and beating his competitors. Additionally, the 24-year-old wants to prove that he was the ‘best on the track’.
That's not something I want, that's not how I want to win a championship. I want to win it by fighting against Max, by beating Max, beating my competitors, and proving that I'm the best on track. And that's how I want to win.Lando Norris told Crash.net
The 2024 season has witnessed over seven race winners as competition has bunched up at the front. Verstappen has continued to do his best to score impressive results amidst the slump. McLaren will have to keep up their strong performances to ensure they stay on course for a championship victory.
