Lando Norris has managed a highly successful campaign in the 2024 season with the dominant pace from McLaren. The Briton has continued his streak of impressive performances amidst Red Bull’s struggles. However, the 24-year-old is also notoriously famous for botching race starts and losing positions. Hence, Norris believes there is a deeper concern to this issue than just his lack of skills.

The Dutch GP saw Max Verstappen immediately start off the line faster than Lando Norris from pole and overtake him into Turn 1. Although McLaren’s dominant pace granted Norris the overtake down the race, the Briton lost position at the start. Hence, the 24-year-old claimed that the team was aware of how to get perfect starts and what to do.

We know what to do, We know what's required to do a perfect start.

However, Norris claimed that the race start issues were within very ‘fine margins.’ Hence, the Briton believed the issue to be something bigger as even Oscar Piastri struggled in the race start. Additionally, the 24-year-old noted there was some other issue that made the two drivers misjudge their race starts at the Dutch GP.

But we're talking about fine margins here. Because we both didn't get it right, it seems like maybe there was more underlying issue. Or something wasn't how it was supposed to be, or we've clearly misjudged something more than what others did.

Lando Norris labeled Oscar Piastri as ‘one of the best race starters’ in F1

Oscar Piastri has also closely followed Lando Norris in second in terms of performance at McLaren. Hence, the latter didn’t hesitate to put Piastri above him in terms of race starts. The 24-year-old claimed he wasn’t as good as his teammate during race starts. Although the Briton wasn’t bad, he wasn’t as good as he wanted to be either.

Oscar is one of the best starters on the grid, I'm not as good as him, but there or thereabouts. I'm not a bad starter, but not as good as obviously what we need to be.

McLaren’s dominant pace has allowed them to close in on Red Bull at the forefront. The Austrian constructor is constantly running the risk of being ousted from the top spot by Woking. Hence, the papaya-colored outfit must keep up with such performances to stay on their mission of winning a constructors championship for the first time since 1997.
