Lando Norris‘ race at the Austrian GP was immediately turned to dust after colliding with Max Verstappen. The Briton had the potential to score the race win after Red Bull’s struggling pace caught Verstappen off guard. However, the collision between the two turned out to be the end of the race for Norris. Subsequently, the 24-year-old’s MCL38 was heavily damaged and rendered unfit to continue the race.
Lando Norris claimed that his friendship could end if Max Verstappen declined to take responsibility for the incident. Apart from this, the former was extremely dissatisfied by the collision and noted that all three times Verstappen did stuff to cause an accident. Subsequently, Norris labeled the 26-year-old as ‘reckless’ and desperate from his side to score the race win.
All three times he's doing stuff which can easily cause an incident. And in a way just a bit reckless – he seemed like a little bit desperate from his side.Lando Norris said, as reported by autosport.com.
Additionally, Lando Norris had some stern words for Verstappen and highlighted that the latter ruined his race and ‘destroyed’ his car. The best bits from the challenger which would’ve been extremely useful in the next race were ruined. McLaren would have to ‘bin’ these components after suffering from an incident on track in Austria.
He ruined my race, destroyed my car. These are the best bits on the car [now] for the bin. These are all the bits that we need for next week.Lando Norris added.
Lando Norris claims Austrian GP collision will be a ‘disadvantage’ for McLaren in Silverstone
Lando Norris will have to perform to the best of his ability in front of the home crowd in Silverstone. However, the team will have to work on the chassis after the massive damage. The Austrian GP collision will cause repercussions in the upcoming British GP as well. As a result, Norris was disappointed by Verstappen and claimed that he expected fair racing from him.
It's not just a repercussion of what happens on the track, it's everything that we have to carry in Silverstone and be disadvantaged by. I just expected a bit more from him.Lando Norris noted.
Apart from this, Norris highlighted that Verstappen had enough wins to commit such risky moves during races. However, the move was a bit ‘desperate’ from the Dutchman’s end as he could’ve let the Briton pass him. Regardless, the 24-year-old was aware that there would be aggressive racing moments between the two towards the end.
He's got plenty of wins. But a bit desperate to do what he could to not let me pass and I know it's going to be aggressive.Lando Norris concluded.
McLaren will have to work extremely hard on fixing the chassis for Norris’ home race in Britain. Woking has showcased great pace improvement and could seriously contend for the constructors’ championship. The competition in the forefront will come extremely close towards the end of the 2024 season.
