Lando Norris and Max Verstappen showcased great racing action towards the end of the 2024 US GP. Both drivers pushed each other to the limit as Verstappen emerged victorious in the battle for the podium (P3). The Dutchman forced Norris to commit a mistake and receive a five-second penalty. The 24-year-old has taken a jibe at the reigning world champion for his uncertain moves towards the end of the race.
Max Verstappen refused to comment on the incident and waited for the stewards’ further investigation into the matter. The Dutchman has also extended his lead in the championship standings after scoring a podium at the US GP. Lando Norris was also frustrated with the team not informing him to cede positions and fight on track again.
Norris berated the stewards over their decision to penalize him on the last lap of the race. The Briton noted that the stewards couldn’t make their minds up and finalize a decision. Additionally, Norris took a dig at Verstappen’s move which helped him gain an unfair advantage and cause a penalty for the 24-year-old.
Lando Norris: He defends by going off track and overtakes by going off track, but I'm not going to complain, he (Max) defended well and drove well.

Lando Norris claims ‘I don’t make the rules’ over being penalized at the US GP
Pole sitter Lando Norris bottled the race start and fell to P4 at Turn 1 right at the beginning. As a result, the Briton was fighting with Max Verstappen for a podium finish to amass a good result. Norris accepted that the five-second penalty wasn’t an ‘easy decision’ for the stewards and hence took so long. Moreover, the 24-year-old believed that the Dutchman ran off the track and gained an advantage as well.
Lando Norris: "It’s not an easy decision otherwise it could have come a bit sooner. [Verstappen] also went off the track, and if he’s gone off the track he’s gone in too deep and also gained an advantage, but I don’t make the rules."

McLaren’s lead in the constructors’ championship has further increased to 40 points after good results from Norris and Oscar Piastri. Red Bull is highly unlikely to contend for the WCC once again this season. On the other hand, Max Verstappen is likely going to be hailed as the 2024 Drivers’ Champion amidst such impressive performances.
