Since the start of the 2024 season, Ferrari has played second fiddle to McLaren. On the other hand, by the end of the campaign, the prancing horses found themselves with the chance of winning the constructors’ title as they had to overcome a 21-point deficit to McLaren in the final race in Abu Dhabi. However, with McLaren locking out the front row, Lando Norris asserted that McLaren wants to beat Ferrari in style to win the constructors’ title.
There has been over a decade-long drought in Maranello since Ferrari‘s last championship victory in 2008. With the ambition to break this streak, the prancing horses aimed to fight tooth and nail for the championship in Abu Dhabi.
On the other hand, there has been an even longer drought at McLaren, as their last constructors’ championship triumph came back in 1998. Moreover, with the Woking-based outfit leading the championship heading into the season finale, they were prepared to not lose their head in their fight with Ferrari.
With the team locking out the front row and having a ‘perfect day‘ in the office, Lando Norris claimed that the English team would win the 2024 constructors’ title with ease. Especially, with style, as he emphasized.
We have to beat Ferrari but we want to do it in style. We want to win, I want to win. We know what we have to do. We are keeping our heads down and staying focused. We are here to win every race possible. Tomorrow we will have a good chance.
Lando Norris said in a post-qualifying interview as quoted by GPBlog
The Briton’s hopes seem to be on track as Charles Leclerc will start the race from the back of the grid (P20). Thus, both papaya cars would only have to fend off the solitary Ferrari of Carlos Sainz during the race.
Carlos Sainz adamant to fight for Abu Dhabi GP victory against Lando Norris
Despite being on the back foot for the race and historical records holding the Scuderia back, it would be Sainz’s last race in red. This has led the 30-year-old to get the motivation that Ferrari needs in order to win the championship. Sainz is ready to do everything in his power to win the Abu Dhabi GP.

Subsequently, the Spaniard explained that he has nothing to lose and would utilize the pace of the Ferrari to cause some troubles in the McLaren garage.
I’m going to give it anything, I was pushing in qualifying like never before, the same tomorrow as it might be my last chance of a win. Nothing to lose.

However, the Italian powerhouse has never won the Abu Dhabi GP. This makes Sainz’s hopes of winning the race even smaller as the previous nine editions of the race have all been won by the pole-sitter, which would instantaneously mean that McLaren would be the 2024 constructors’ champions.
