Lando Norris has emerged as the title favorite despite suffering from a performance slump mid-way through the season. The Briton started the season off in great form but lost performance ahead of the summer break.

However, his recent dominance, coupled with Oscar Piastri‘s mysterious slump in results, has helped Norris build a 24-point gap in the standings. As such, the 26-year-old opens up on the reasons behind his sudden turnaround in pace.

McLaren has remained the most dominant team on the grid since the beginning of the 2025 season. The team even won the constructors’ title just a couple of races after the summer break. The driver’s title, on the other hand, is a different story.

The title winner hasn’t been decided yet, and the battle is far from over between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Now, despite a meteoric rise in Norris’ results, he still believes he isn’t in his final form yet and can do even better.

Lando Norris has cast his doubts on coming up as a winning force in Las Vegas. Still, he spoke openly about the reasons behind his sudden resurgence in performance. Norris reckoned that he was in his current position purely because of his newfound mental strength. The Briton surprisingly claimed that he is glad he had a crappy beginning to the 2025 season, as he could now bounce back with ease.

Lando Norris clarified that the lows he faced in the beginning helped him stay positive no matter the circumstances. The Briton was able to focus on himself more and keep improving his pace at the end. All these factors combined took him to a much stronger position and achieved such a comfortable lead in the title standings.

The result of where I am now is from a mental side, I’m in this position because of the beginning of the season, like, I’m almost happier that I had a pretty crappy beginning of the year. Those difficult times certainly allowed me to be a little bit more positive about myself, allowed me to focus and I started to do a lot more work on all of those things to improve them, which has led me to be in this much stronger position.

Lando Norris reveals the ‘moment’ that turned his 2025 season around

Certainly, Lando Norris wasn’t as confident in himself and his results back when he was struggling to bring home the race wins. The Briton retraced his 2025 season and pinpointed the exact moment which turned his season around, or so people thought. Norris believed that the Dutch GP at Zandvoort was the one that helped him turn his results around for the better.

Lando Norris revealed that he wasn’t happy and gutted following his DNF at the Dutch GP. The Briton recalled that his race pace was still reasonably strong and his resurgence had started much before the race in Zandvoort.

Norris reckoned that everyone believed the Dutch GP to be his turning point, but for him he believes that it started a few weekends before that as he started to get on the right track.

I was obviously gutted and not happy, but it wasn’t like I came in and I was just deflated about everything. The race pace was still reasonably strong, so I think it was prior to that. Everyone refers to Zandvoort as being that moment that turned things around – already prior to Zandvoort I think I started to be on the right track.

Lando Norris noted.

The 2025 season has just three races left before completion, and the Las Vegas GP is up next. Lando Norris doesn’t have very high hopes of being crowned as the champion in the third and final race in America.

However, decent results from Norris can help him hold onto his championship lead if not build upon it. As such, it will be interesting to witness how the final races pan out for the 26-year-old in terms of his championship ambitions.
