Red Bull driver Sergio Perez has been nowhere near the level of his teammate Max Verstappen in the 2024 F1 season. The latter amassed his fourth consecutive drivers’ title last week and following this, McLaren’s Lando Norris has indirectly taken a dig at Perez.

The Milton-Keynes-based team is currently in third place (555 points) in the fiercely contested constructors championship. This has been mainly down to the horrendous form that Sergio Perez has showcased in the ongoing campaign.

In light of this, Norris has insisted that Red Bull could have won the constructors as well had they had two Verstappen’s in their car.

Red Bull probably would have won the constructors if they had two drivers as good as Max, that’s for sure. That’s clear. That’s obvious. It shows that as a team, they’ve still probably done the best job.

After 22 rounds, Perez has only managed 152 points in comparison to Max Verstappen‘s 403. This stat is evidence enough to fathom the level of mediocre performances the former six-time Grand Prix winner has put in this year.

While Lando Norris has indirectly taken a dig at Sergio Perez, the latter has acknowledged the might of his teammate. In Qatar, Perez has showered huge praise on the 27-year-old for the kind of season he has produced in the RB20.

This is the best Max I have seen, the way he pushed the team and how hard he worked during this year. There were a lot of periods during the year where we looked really far [away], and he would push the team in all the areas, in all the aspects. I think Max has made very big steps out of the car. I think his talent and his speed has been there since day one, but how he reads the races, how he works with the team, how he pushes the team, I think that’s the biggest step that he has done in these past years.

The ongoing race weekend in Qatar is the penultimate round of the 2024 F1 season. Keeping this in view, the remaining two races hold huge importance for Perez and his chances of staying with the Austrian team for 2025. Quite a few candidates are in contention for the coveted seat, and amidst this, the 34-year-old has to bring out his absolute A-game in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
