The Brazilian GP was perhaps the most exciting race of the 2024 F1 season. The race witnessed several on-track tussles, safety cars, and even a red flag. However, McLaren’s Lando Norris reckoned that Max Verstappen did not deserve to win the Grand Prix.

George Russell led the first half of the Brazilian GP. However, the Mercedes driver and Norris lost track position after the red flag. This allowed Max Verstappen and the two Alpine drivers, Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly to take the podium spots.

Lando Norris was not happy with the result for McLaren as he lost out after making a pitstop. The Briton admitted that it was a gamble which did not pay off. Moreover, Norris insisted that George Russell deserved to win the race, taking a direct shot at arch-rival Max Verstappen.

Starts a bit of a gamble. Sometimes it goes one way and sometimes the other. With the red flag it was free stops, and George deserved to win the race.

Lando Norris insists Max Verstappen ‘got lucky’ over Brazil victory

The McLaren driver highlighted that he pitted as he entrusted his team. Unfortunately, Norris got unlucky with his rival Verstappen getting a free change of tires. The Briton highlighted that no driver agrees with the rule of changing tires under red flags. However, Lando Norris reckoned that many would like this rule now. The 24-year-old asserted that Max Verstappen did drive well but he got lucky.

I had faith in the team in what they say. I trust them. That is luck for them. They got lucky. A rule that no one aggresses with. None of us drivers agree with it, they might agree with it now. He (Max) drove well and got lucky.

Certainly, Lando Norris is frustrated after the Sao Paulo race. The Briton now trails behind Max Verstappen by 62 points with just three races to go. As such, the McLaren driver needs a solid result in the next race to keep his championship hopes alive.
