Lando Norris became a frontrunner in Formula 1 for the first time in 2024. The British driver put up a fight against Max Verstappen for the world title. Unfortunately, Norris lost the championship last weekend. Now, the 25-year-old has praised McLaren while taking a dig at Red Bull.

Norris highlighted that at the start of the season, McLaren were the fourth fastest on the grid. The three-time race winner hinted that the Woking-based squad managed to have the quickest car on certain occasions courtesy of its in-season development.

We were the fourth-best team at the beginning of the year.

On the other hand, Lando Norris hit out at Red Bull, claiming that Milton Keynes might not have had the fourth fastest car ever on the grid. Max Verstappen and the Austrian team have been consistently at the front for years. Although, Milton Keynes was in the midfield when it had just acquired Jaguar to enter the sport in the mid 2000s.

Red Bull have never been the fourth-best team, or worst let’s say, ever.

Lando Norris blames ‘too strong’ Red Bull for title defeat

Max Verstappen won seven out of the first ten races this year. Lando Norris insisted that this created a big points deficit in the opening stage of the season. Norris did make a dent on Verstappen’s lead midway through the campaign. However, the McLaren driver admitted that the Dutch driver was simply too strong.

We had just too big of a [points] deficit to catch up from the beginning of the season and we could not because they’ve been too strong still.

Lando Norris would be disappointed to lose the championship in his maiden title campaign. Though, the 25-year-old would recognize his mistakes and understand how he can be stronger next season. Fans would hope that Norris puts up a bigger challenge against Max Verstappen in 2025.
