Lando Norris and McLaren emerged as the real threat to Max Verstappen and Red Bull this season. The Woking-based team caught up with the reigning world champions in terms of pure pace. However, Norris was still making mistakes in his fight against Verstappen.
The British driver even doubted himself in recent weeks, claiming that he doesn’t have what it takes to be a world champion in Formula 1. Lando Norris had missed out on a few opportunities to win races despite having seemingly the quickest car on the grid.
However, the Dutch GP was finally a good weekend for the McLaren driver. Norris took a dominant win on Max Verstappen‘s home turf. As such, Lando Norris has finally solidified himself as the favorite for the world title this season.
Lando Norris’ stellar victory a massive confidence boost
Norris had a good weekend in Zandvoort. The McLaren driver defeated Verstappen to take pole position on Saturday. Albeit, the Dutch driver took the lead at the race start. Nevertheless, Lando Norris seemed to be in a league of his own as he overtook Verstappen and set the pace of the race.
The British driver was comfortable at the front, increasing his lead gradually during the race. So much so, that Lando Norris won the race by a gap of over 20 seconds to Max Verstappen, the biggest lead so far this season. Norris celebrated this victory in style by taking a dig at Verstappen on the team radio.
Finally, Lando Norris has shown that he has what it takes to defeat the reigning world champions. The British driver was calm and focused throughout the race. This will only increase his confidence for the remaining nine races. As such, fans could see Norris push himself to the limit to try and win his maiden world title this season.
