Max Verstappen raised a lot of eyebrows in the previous month after he visited Sardinia, Italy, at the same time as Toto Wolff. Amid all the Verstappen to Mercedes rumors, this visit came as a shock to everyone. This alleged meetup drew further speculations that a deal was done between the Dutchman and Brackley. However, both Wolff and the 27-year-old refused any claims of meeting on the Italian islands, claiming they were there simply with their families. However, a shocking twist has now come in the matter.

Max Verstappen‘s time at Red Bull in the 2025 season has been very challenging. The Dutchman is unable to keep up with his winning pace from the previous seasons. This had caused speculation about the reigning world champion seeking to join rival teams, especially Mercedes. Toto Wolff‘s undying interest in acquiring Verstappen remained despite finding stability in his team’s drivers’ lineup. However, the 27-year-old cleared the air by declaring that he would continue with the same team and asked everyone to stop the rumors.

The rumors had seemed to intensify after Toto Wolff and Max Verstappen both landed in Sardinia on the same day. People claimed that the two definitely met up and discussed a switch in teams. However, both individuals remained secretive about their plans and declined any claims of having a meeting. Now, in a shocking turn of events, images of Verstappen clearly spending time on Wolff’s boat are circulating online.

Verstappen was spotted shirtless with Toto Wolff on a yacht, presumably of the latter. Initially, it was believed that the images were altered by AI. However, Planetf1 and other sources have confirmed that the images clicked by the paparazzi are indeed completely real. This disproves the comments from Wolff and the Dutchman, indicating that the two entities definitely met at Sardinia. It is up for debate whether the two men discussed the switch in teams for the four-time champion or not, but something was definitely cooking.

Ex-FIA Steward declares Max Verstappen ‘cannot bounce back’ in 2026

Red Bull is all set to develop their own power units with Ford as a partner from the 2026 season. Milton Keynes might face a massive challenge in this endeavor and potentially fail to match up to Mercedes and Ferrari. Upon the team’s chances to succeed in the coming season, former FIA steward, Johnny Herbert, raises uncertainty.

Johnny Herbert pointed out that a lot of people who were an important element at Red Bull had left the team. The constructor declined in pace and performance in a very short span of time, which made it even more difficult to bounce back from it. Still, the team will have the massive task of improving performance with power units designed by themselves. Herbert cast doubts on Max Verstappen and the team’s chances to succeed even in the 2026 season.

A lot of other people that have proven that they were a very important part of Red Bull have gone. And now they’ve declined in a very short space of time and it’s how they rediscover the right mindset to be able to change their mentality to move it in a direction that is going to be more beneficial for 2026. Can I see a bounce back next year? No.

Johnny Herbert said, as reported by GPblog

The 2025 season has been nothing short of a massive challenge for Red Bull. The team is way behind in the constructors’ championship, being 365 points adrift of the lead. Max Verstappen is also trailing the championship lead by 69 points to Oscar Piastri. Hence, with just ten races left, it is next to impossible for the team and Verstappen to contend for the title by the end of the season.
