In Short
  • Lewis Hamilton is motivated to perform well in the upcoming 2026 season despite concerns over new regulations.
  • Alex Albon has publicly supported Hamilton as a favorite for the championship, citing his driving style's compatibility with lighter cars.
  • Hamilton acknowledges the uncertainty of the new racing conditions and is focused on managing expectations for the season ahead.

The commencement of the 2026 season is right around the corner. Many teams and drivers have raised concerning thoughts regarding the new rules. Lewis Hamilton was one of the many disliking the new regulations and the racing they produced. Still, Hamilton remained highly motivated to perform well over the 2026 season and start afresh.

Now, Williams’ Alex Albon supports Lewis Hamilton in his championship ambitions in the 2026 season, especially after his nightmare debut back in 2025. The Thai-British driver has been a long-time friend and supporter of the seven-time champion. As such, Albon did not hesitate to put Hamilton as the championship favorite for the upcoming season.

Initially, Alex Albon reckoned that he did not want to stir controversy by taking a single name. However, when pushed by Carlos Sainz to give a definitive answer, Albon highlighted that he supported Lewis Hamilton to win his record-breaking eighth title. The Thai-British driver continued that the lighter cars might suit Hamilton’s driving style, ultimately helping him perform much better on track.

Further, Alex Albon stated that the seven-time champion had a specific driving style where he attacked corners very sharply and did not focus on exits. Given the uncertainty of the 2026 F1 challengers, Albon believes that this strategy might do more good than harm for Lewis Hamilton. As such, it will be interesting to witness how the 41-year-old fares against the massive expectations laid on him.

Weird question, but interesting, I have my person. I don’t think I should say it, but I think I have my person. I think it’s Lewis. I think, lighter cars. I think that his style suits these cars a bit more. This feeling of, he makes the corners really short and he doesn’t focus on exits. I don’t think that’s the worst thing in these cars.

Lewis Hamilton makes “figuring out” statement on 2026 F1 regulations

Certainly, Lewis Hamilton is not sugarcoating his situation for the 2026 season, especially under the new regulations. The Briton will have to manage expectations leading up to the year and hope to achieve the best possible results. Still, Hamilton has already noted that the start to this season is much better than that of the 2025 season. Now, he makes a shocking acceptance of the team’s potential to succeed in the coming season.

Lewis Hamilton highlighted that all of the teams were still trying to figure out what it would be like to race under the new conditions. Hamilton revealed that many teams were trying to remain behind other drivers and see what it was like using the new Straight Line Mode or the Manual Boost Override. The Briton continued that he was unaware of how other drivers feel and doubted if it was going to improve anytime soon.

I think we’re all trying to figure out at the moment what it is going to be like in race conditions, Obviously, we have the straight line mode (SM), we have the overtake and the boost, so I think people who were doing long runs [in testing] were trying to find somebody to get behind and see what it is like behind them.  I don’t know what the other [drivers] feel, and I don’t know if it is going to be better; we shall see.

Lewis Hamilton said, as reported by RacingNews365.
