Lewis Hamilton admits he felt that he ‘wasn’t good enough’ before ending his winless F1 stint at British GP

Lewis Hamilton had a long winless stint before his much-awaited victory in Formula 1. The Briton finally scored a race victory at his home race of the British GP. The Briton won the race after a gap of 945 days. Hence, the 39-year-old opened up and noted that he wasn’t expecting his performance to be good enough to be able to score any race wins after his last triumph back in 2021.
Lewis Hamilton was under a massive victory slump amidst Mercedes struggling pace in the ground-effect era. After securing a move to Ferrari from the 2025 season, Hamilton had one last chance to end a campaign with Brackley on high. However, the start of the 2024 season was nothing short of a surprise after witnessing a disappointing pace.
Regardless, Brackley managed a massive turnaround since the season started, enabling Hamilton to win a race. The Briton was extremely emotional over the win and couldn’t stop crying at the great achievement. The 39-year-old accepted that there had been days since his last win in 2021 when he felt that he wasn’t good enough to score the race wins.

Lewis Hamilton reflects upon his time with Mercedes before moving to Ferrari in 2025
Mercedes had continued to work hard over the chassis to enable the drivers to keep scoring well. Although Brackley didn’t score a win in the 2023 season, they took great learnings from their mistakes. Hence, the 2024 season showcases the resilient and adaptive attitude of the crew at the German carmaker.
Hamilton reflected on his last season with Mercedes and how this was the last British GP with the team. As a result, he really wanted to score a victory with the outfit. Additionally, the Briton noted that he ‘loved’ the Mercedes crew and appreciated them a lot. The seven-time world champion claimed that he would be ‘forever grateful’ to the crew.

Mercedes will continue to implement further upgrades and improve performance. George Russell suffered from a disappointing end to the British GP after having to retire abruptly. Hence, the team will look over the issue and continue to showcase such great improvement going ahead into the season.
