Lewis Hamilton has been racing in Formula 1 for almost over two decades now. The Briton has achieved great success over his long career. However, the recent few years haven’t been kind to him as he has failed to put up a championship-winning performance. Despite the performance issues, Hamilton still resorts to brutal and non-negotiable training to race in the pinnacle of motorsport.

Lewis Hamilton‘s debut season with Ferrari in the 2025 season was nothing short of a massive nightmare. Though Hamilton couldn’t be a common visitor to the victory lane, he still had to go through intense training sessions to show up every race weekend and give it his all. Now, after driving in the sport for so long, the 40-year-old opened up on the non-negotiables in his training routine.

During the off-season, Lewis Hamilton is often spotted sharing his training activities on social media. The 40-year-old revealed that one of the other non-negotiables he has while training is ice baths. The seven-time champion pointed out that he did not focus on recovery at all in the past, which certainly did more harm than good.

Lewis Hamilton recalled that he would simply finish his high-intensity workout and go on with his day. However, now, with growing age and experience, he started focusing more on stretching and ice baths. Hamilton asserted that he forced himself to always go through recovery and focus more on it. The 40-year-old seems to have it in the bag as he’s showing up to race weekends with great physical strength.

Ice baths. Recovery is something that I never really focused on in the past. I would just do the workout and then go on with my day. So stretching and ice baths – those are the two things that I force myself to do.

Lewis Hamilton reveals how he deals with ‘thoughts of giving up’

Looking back at the 2025 season, it is understandable that Lewis Hamilton certainly had moments of wanting to give up and hang up the racing suit. However, Hamilton did not give up and gave it his all over a race weekend. Now, the 40-year-old revealed how his training and recovery process helped him overcome the thoughts of giving up on racing in the sport.

Lewis Hamilton boldly revealed that training had been his therapy ever since he was younger. He insisted that a majority of his positive thinking happened while he was running, doing yoga, or meditating off-track. Moreover, the ice bath helped him control his breathing better, which ultimately helped him overcome the thoughts of wanting to give up racing in Formula 1. All these things combined helped him stay positive throughout the year and not give up already.

When I was younger, I think the training was really my therapy – and it still kind of is, particularly the runs. That’s where I get most of my thinking done. Adding things like yoga, adding things like breathwork. Breathwork has probably taken the longest to get into because it takes time. Then meditation. I think the ice bath helps with that, too, because you need to learn to breathe and overcome the thoughts of wanting to give up, wanting to get out. Those things really help me stay positive through the year.

Certainly, Lewis Hamilton will hope for much better performances in the 2026 season under the new regulations. Though the 40-year-old has already cast doubts upon the dominance of the cars of the coming regulations. For now, Hamilton will enjoy his time off-season and return to giving it his all again in the upcoming season.
