Mercedes had lost out on the 2021 world championship for Lewis Hamilton in a controversial manner. Although Hamilton didn’t speak much on the matter after the 2021 season, the Briton started to degrade in terms of performance. However, after finally winning the British GP after a hiatus of 945 days, the 39-year-old opened up regarding his feelings.
Lewis Hamilton started tearing up and hugged his father after scoring the British GP victory after so long. Recalling his previous win in the Saudi Arabian GP in 2021, the Briton noted that it was ‘devastating’ that he hadn’t won since then. However, Hamilton kept feeling that he was building himself back up again from scratch.
I haven't won since 2021, and it was such a devastating moment. To build back up from that, I kept feeling like I was building back up.Lewis Hamilton said in an interview with canalplus.com.

Hamilton came extremely close on multiple occasions to score the race win yet lacked something or the other. The Briton pointed out that despite feeling ‘close to victory’ he still was too far from it. In addition to the mental block, the disappointing challenger performance was another obstacle in trying to score the race victory.
But even if I felt like I was getting close, I was probably so far from it. Also, we didn't have the car at the time.Lewis Hamilton added.

Lewis Hamilton claims crossing the British GP line as winner was the ‘most emotional’ he’d ever been
Mercedes has started to perform increasingly well after scoring two consecutive race wins. Additionally, the 2024 British GP was the last time Lewis Hamilton would race at the home circuit as a Silver Arrow before moving to Ferrari. Hence, these multiple factors were the reason to make the victory all the more emotional for the seven-time world champion.

The W15 challenger started performing well and enabled the Briton to score the race win. Hamilton reckoned that the car came out on its own and started to perform well. Hence, crossing the line as the race winner was the ‘most emotional’ the 39-year-old had ever been in F1. The seven-time world champion also claimed that no other race victory had ever meant as much to him as this one.
Finally, the car has kind of come into its own. Coming across the line, it was the most emotional I've ever been. I don't think any race has ever meant so much to me.Lewis Hamilton noted.
Mercedes will have the chance to take control over their position in the constructors’ championship amidst promising performance. The team could enable a shot at the third position in the championship if not the runner-up position. However, McLaren’s dominant pace could disallow Brackley from a chance at finishing second.
