McLaren driver Lando Norris secured his fifth pole position of the 2024 season at the Singapore Grand Prix. Norris outpaced Lewis Hamilton in his MCL38 by three-tenths of a second to set the fastest time of all in Q3.

Lando Norris has been in flying form ever since his win at Miami earlier this year. The 24-year-old currently stands second in the drivers’ championship with 254 points to his name. The Woking-based team has consistently been miles ahead of their rivals in terms of pure pace.

Lewis Hamilton thereafter deemed the Papayas as lightning fast while aiming a subtle dig towards them. McLaren has been accused of using a flexible mini-DRS on their rear wing, which has been offering them an additional advantage.

I think the McLaren’s too fast with their wing moving! Front wing moving, rear wing moving! They’re just lightning at the moment.
Lewis Hamilton said after the qualifying at Singapore

The 39-year-old said that the Woking-based team’s challenger was extremely fast with their moving front and rear wings. Up next awaits an action-packed 62-lap race, which will witness a tough battle between the top teams.

Lando Norris talks of struggles despite clinching pole in Singapore

Lando Norris is chasing his third win of the season to close the gap to Max Verstappen in the drivers’ championship. The 24-year-old has been a bit ineffective in winning races despite having the fastest car of all this season.

I had faith that we would be quick, so I didn't have to over-push and I could just do what I've been doing the whole weekend. That's a nice feeling that I didn't have to kind of go over and beyond. But it's tricky, the car is moving around, and it's bumpy. It's easy to break one metre too late, all of a sudden. So you pay the price for overdriving and over-pushing. But I kept it cool and I did what I had to do.

Norris has talked of the tricky nature of the Marina Bay circuit while highlighting the necessary risks involved. The British driver claimed that he kept his cool and put his foot right to set a convincing lap time for his team.

Max Verstappen leads Norris by 59 points and will start the 2024 Singapore GP in second place. The 24-year-old must now make his best efforts to prevent losing his lead to Verstappen during the early stages of the race tomorrow.
