Lewis Hamilton is the first and only black driver to ever race in F1. The 39-year-old is battling the sport for increasing diversity and inclusivity. Hamilton has also worked extensively on the LH44 Mission to provide underprivileged children with the opportunity to work in F1. Hence, the seven-time world champion reckoned that he felt ‘liberated’ after speaking up on such issues.
Lewis Hamilton will continue his battle against racism even after joining Ferrari from the 2025 season onwards. After moving to Ferrari, Hamilton mentioned he would continue to pursue his dreams of diversity at Maranello. Additionally, the 39-year-old had also talked about the serious impending issue within the Italian constructor’s crew that will need to be addressed soon.
Hence, after talking about such issues and constantly fighting for them, Hamilton revealed that he felt liberated. The decision to speak up for the people who didn’t feel they had a voice further motivated the Briton to fight for it. Subsequently, Hamilton hoped to encourage people further to use their voices and speak up against such problems in society.
It was really liberating to know that I took that choice but then knew that I was also speaking for people who didn’t feel they had a voice and hopefully encouraging others to use their voice.Lewis Hamilton said during an interview.

Lewis Hamilton recalled that he ‘had enough’ with lack of inclusivity in F1 in 2019
Lewis Hamilton has been racing in F1 for a very long time. However, the pinnacle of motorsport has witnessed little to no involvement of black people for a very long time. Hamilton’s dominant performance in 2019 was when he felt he had enough.
The Briton recalled that the 2019 season was when he had enough of the lack of diversity. The seven-time world champion recalled that he would look at team pictures and find nobody of color. Hence, that was when Hamilton decided to put his foot down and continue his fight to increase diversity and inclusivity in F1.
Where I really, really had enough was 2019. Every year I've been looking at the team pictures... and you zoom in and there's literally nobody of color and it's all men and very very few women. I wanted to shout out, I was so frustrated.Lewis Hamilton added.
Hence, due to such great souls racing in F1, the sport will only go onwards and upwards from here. The fastest one-seater category has already been gaining immense traction due to the unique format. As a result, after adding more people of color and women to the sport, F1 will receive further additions of fans and people working.
