The oldest drivers on the current F1 grid, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, suffered from a dismal outing at the recent Singapore GP. Alonso has been racing in the sport since the 2001 season, with a hiatus between 2018 and 2021. Meanwhile, Hamilton debuted in the 2007 season and partnered with the Asturian at McLaren back then.
As such, after clashing heads at the Singapore GP, the seven-time champion has taken a hilarious dig at the Aston Martin driver. In the final stages of the Singapore GP, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso were racing against one another for the P7 finish.
On the final lap, Hamilton suffered from a brake failure, and he had to cut multiple corners to maintain his position. Meanwhile, Alonso covered a 50s gap to the driver ahead of him and was still unable to overtake the 40-year-old. Because of this, the Asturian lashed out on the team radio and criticized the Briton’s antics.
It did not matter in the end as Lewis Hamilton was hit with a five-second penalty and fell to a P9 finish, giving Fernando Alonso the P7 finish ultimately. However, the back and forth on the team radio between both drivers was very reminiscent of their rivalry at McLaren back in 2007. Following the culmination of the race, Hamilton took to Instagram and made a hilarious remark on their rivalry.
Lewis Hamilton posted a hilarious compilation of Richard Wilson‘s dialogue from One Foot in the Grave, where he says the famous catchphrase, “I don’t believe it.” Additionally, Hamilton captioned the video, “18 years off..” which signified that it had been over 18 years since he debuted in Formula 1 and had a long-standing rivalry with Fernando Alonso. The hilarious post also signified that the two had been racing at the pinnacle of motorsport for a long time despite their age.

Lewis Hamilton dwells on ‘challenging’ Singapore GP outing
The Singapore GP would be one to forget for Lewis Hamilton, who had been struggling to perform well since the beginning of the weekend. Hamilton’s woes began in the Qualifying session, as he could only achieve a P7 start for the race. The Briton’s race pace was nothing to write a story about either, as his brake failure caused him to finish in only P9, much farther back from where he started.

As such, Lewis Hamilton looked back at the Singapore GP weekend and deemed it to be a challenging couple of days. However, the 40-year-old also insisted that there were some positives to take from the weekend. Hamilton reckoned that he felt good in the car all weekend and could achieve a strong final third of the race. Regardless, an unfortunate brake incident ruined his chances to score more points over the weekend.
It has been a challenging couple of days, but there were definitely some positives to take, I’ve felt good in the car all weekend, and we had a strong final third of the race. The softs gave us great attacking pace and meant I could close down a big gap to the cars ahead. But unfortunately, a brake issue cost us the overtake and the chance to score more points.
Lewis Hamilton said, as reported by RacingNews365.
The 2025 season now only has six races left until completion. Lewis Hamilton is out of any and all contention for the championship and must salvage any points possible in the remainder of the season. The Briton has shifted his priority to the 2026 season and emerging as a winning force by then. Hence, it will be interesting to witness what Hamilton does to improve his form by the coming season.
