As such, the Italian squad must work desperately on their form and ensure that they start performing well from the get-go. Hamilton accepts that the team must not be under any false illusions and give it their all on track.
Lewis Hamilton will certainly hope to bounce back from his career-worst season in Formula 1. During the private test session in Barcelona, Ferrari did not have any major issues, and it turned out better than expected. However, problems are to be anticipated throughout the 2026 season as it introduces new regulations. Notably, Hamilton topped the entire testing session with the fastest lap of 1:16.348, which doesn’t mean much, but it is still a positive.
Now, speaking on the team’s potential to perform well in the 2026 season, Lewis Hamilton noted that the environment within the team was positive and enthusiastic. The 41-year-old did not fail to acknowledge that they still had a lot of work to do, and were not under false illusions. Hamilton reckoned that the likes of Red Bull, Mercedes, and Haas did a great job with their challenger and hence would be tough competitors.
Everyone is positive and incredibly enthusiastic, I mean, we’re under no illusions. We know we’ve got work to do, Mercedes has done great running, and Red Bull and Haas did as well.
Lewis Hamilton said, as reported by RacingNews365.
Lewis Hamilton accepted that Ferrari’s true condition was unknown as the season hadn’t started yet. Regardless, the test session remained solid for the team in terms of early performance. Hamilton reckoned that they could build well from this point forward and take some big leaps wherever necessary.
So I don’t know really where we are, but I think it is a solid first week, and we can really build from here, so there may be some big leaps that we need to take.

The new regulations will be a massive challenge for all the teams on the grid. Moreover, with an 11th team joining the grid in Cadillac, the competition will only tighten. As such, Lewis Hamilton ponders over the key to succeed under the new regulations and return Ferrari to their winning ways in Formula 1.

Lewis Hamilton revealed that development over the season was key to success, atleast for Ferrari. Moreover, the team needed to ensure that they leave no stone unturned and remain clear and concise with communication between the engineers and drivers. Hamilton accepted that it would drain everyone’s energy to perform well this year, but everyone had refreshed energy ahead of the 2026 season, which was a great indicator.
Development is going to be key, and it is just making sure that we leave no stone left unturned, and that we are really clear and concise with our communication and the decisions we take. It is going to take all of us to be at our best, and I’m just seeing everyone coming with a new energy this year, which is great.
Lewis Hamilton noted.
The 2026 season might be make or break for Lewis Hamilton as his continuation in Formula 1 depends on how Ferrari performs this year. Hamilton’s contract runs out at the end of this season, and he will renew it only if he still has faith in Maranello’s project. For now, the Italian squad aims to start the year on the right foot and continue to build on the positive indicators.
