Lewis Hamilton has to shut up and race
Lewis Hamilton has loved controversies all through his career as he chases his 8th World Championship

Lewis Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton is not a maverick. He is recalcitrant, more than someone being just incorrigible. As the brand new 2023 Formula One season vrooms to a start in dusty Sakhir, Bahrain, Hamilton again want to make news. These days he grabs headlines not because he zooms to pole position but looks for every chance to stir controversy.
What is it about this crazy guy from Britain who thinks he is God’s gift to the world of motorsports, notably, F1. Billions of F1 fans loved it when this dude broke onto the big stage as a champion. Bold, daring, speedy, he loved the thrill and going for the kill.
Yet, over the years, despite his huge brand value and iconic status, Hamilton has got carried away. None dare question him, as he has himself said in interviews he does not like to be told what to do. Ok, Lewis, you are great, but that does not mean you become uncouth, a lout who disrespects rules, norms, values and being sensitive.
The latest to act as a provocateur is Lewis Hamilton of spent force fame at Mercedes, wearing the rainbow colours flag on his helmet, a symbol of the LGBTQ. The world has changed, the world has evolved. Yet, one needs to respect the laws of the land.

FIFA banned Rainbow Colours in Qatar

One saw, during the FIFA World Cup in Qatar recently, anything to do with LGBTQ was banned, just like beer near stadia. The English football team and the Germans wanted to make a show of it (LGBTQ) in Qatar. Rightly, it was shot down by the Qatar organisers, where FIFA’s role was just to keep nodding its head.
In Formula 1, despite all the hype and hoopla, has been seen as a fair sport. Yet, Hamilton has taunted it more than anyone else, bullied it, all because he is a Briton. The sense of entitlement has been crazy. Maybe, when he was winning the World Championships, he had that aura. Once aura turned into arrogance and success went to his head, Hamilton became a pain.
The world knows, the Bahrain Grand Prix has been on the F1 calendar since 2004. That is, the event came into existence even before rookie Hamilton took birth in the sport in McLaren Mercedes in 2007. At that time, Hamilton was new, raw, and full of energy. People loved him for his speed, his mastery, and his rise. He become the ascendant in F1. For billions of F1 fans who have seen this sport as a preserve of the Whites, Hamilton came as a whiff of fresh air.
Today, Hamilton is losing respect. For someone with a gigantic presence and status on social media, he cannot go to Bahrain and mock the nation. It is well known, Arab nations have strict laws on several issues, and LGBTQ is banned, officially. Ideally, Hamilton should be keeping quiet on this topic. But he wants to show off, the typical arrogance of a Brit, a sense of entitlement that he is bigger than the sport.
Hamilton can join LGBTQ marches, hoist flags and be part of the community. Nobody is stopping him, but he certainly cannot take on Bahrain. A nation is bigger than any individual, which Hamilton needs to realize. If it’s so important, Hamilton should not race in Bahrain. In British sport, there are many crazy heroes, mostly footballers, who want to do all the stupid stuff. Yet, there have been past champions in F1 from Britain – Sterling Moss to Jackie Stewart and Damon Hill. None was so sullen and obstinate as Hamilton, being true champions with a genteel touch.
Hamilton’s craze for piercing and jewellery

Before this, and even now, Hamilton has been crazed about jewellery, ear piercing, and nose piercing! He has dared to take on the high priests in Formula One and the FIA, yet he wants sympathy. This is a sport where there are risks every second, it’s highly combustible. Hamilton will insist on wearing rings on every finger, gold and platinum chains which could be used to tame animals in a stud farm. The very meaning of stud has been given new dimensions by Hamilton, a driver who does not respect rules and being told in the name of safety avoid all this.
Last year, he told a magazine in an interview that before the Miami Grand Prix, he wanted to be quirky. Before coming for a press conference in Miami, he mocked all rings on every finger, multiple chains, and more than one watch. “I just put on as much as I could,” he said. Hamilton has even said, he can miss a race if need be than remove jewellery. All this reflects a mindset of someone wanting to break rules.
Recently, Formula One wanted to ban drivers from making political and religious statements. The drivers came out in force, where, too, Hamilton wanted to be a leader of sorts. He looks for an opportunity to hog the limelight. It is, as, he looks for a calamity in every opportunity.
Even as far as racing goes, Hamilton sobbed after the last race, a decisive one, in the 2021 F1 Grand Prix. Hamilton wept he had been robbed by race director Michael Massi, in the final race in Abu Dhabi, where Max Verstappen emerged champion for the first time in controversial circumstances. Massi lost his job for it, poor guy.
Even now, Hamilton is cribbing about his Mercedes car in the new season, and not enough development has been done on it. No team should ideally be putting up with such crap as he speaks. Predictions are, Max Verstappen will do well in 2023 as well. Yes, Hamilton is already cribbing!
