F1 commercial rights holder Liberty Media recently announced the acquisition of MotoGP in a deal worth over $4 billion. This created waves among motorsports enthusiasts. Subsequently, seven-time F1 champion, Lewis Hamilton has claimed that it would be epic if both racing categories would hold a race together on the same weekend.

Liberty Media took commercial rights of F1 in 2017 and has been credited for skyrocketing the sport’s popularity worldwide. On the other hand, MotoGP was facing a crisis as fans were leaving the sport, and popularity became stagnant. This led Dorna Sports[MotoGP’s previous owner] to sell a staggering 86% equity to Liberty Media, who will now handle all the decisions in the two-wheeler series.

I didn't really think a lot about it, [but] obviously I read the headlines about it. I think Liberty[Media] has done an amazing job with Formula 1, obviously the value of the thing [rising since 2017]. So, I think they can do a great job with MotoGP. It's exciting because I love MotoGP. It would be epic if we can have them on the same weekend.
Lewis Hamilton said in an interview with Motorsport.com

The 39-year-old claimed that he had heard about the rumors. Subsequently, he dwelled deeper into the possibility of shared weekends like F1 has with the Porsche Supercup at multiple circuits. However, if such a possibility of F1 and MotoGP having crossover weekends would arise then the Brit would be one of the happiest people on the grid.

Lewis Hamilton lamented his P9 finish at Japan

Hamilton had a strong 2023 season, which may have been influential in warranting him a seat at Ferrari. However, his start to the 2024 campaign has not been so fruitful, as showcased in Japan, the Brit finished more than 48 seconds behind the race leader, Max Verstappen.

Subsequently, after the race, the 39-year-old gave an honest review.

The car is never what I hoped it would be. It’s never what we hoped it would be. I got some damage I think in the first stint at the restart with Charles [Leclerc] and I had massive understeer, like huge, huge understeer. So that’s why I decided to let George by because he seemed quicker and I just couldn’t turn the car.

Lewis Hamilton said in a post-race interview with F1.com

Hamilton claimed the W15 to be out of his comfort zone. Moreover, he received damage on the restart with Charles Leclerc, which hampered his race even more, and dialed in a bit more understeer in the car. This ultimately led him to offer a swap of positions with his teammate.

Apart from this, normality returned in the paddock when the Dutchman took the win at Suzuka. The next race weekend will be hosted at the Shanghai International Racing Circuit in China, and Red Bull is expected to dominate that weekend again. Keeping everything in view, Hamilton will eye a much better outing at the upcoming race weekend.
