Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has opposed the FIA over Max Verstappen‘s swear ban punishment. Verstappen was reprimanded for having uttered a curse word (f*ck) during the press conference of the Singapore GP.

Max Verstappen is known to be an extremely vocal driver who communicates his disagreements and issues transparently. The 26-year-old’s passion for the sport has often led him to use colorful language that has been disregarded by the FIA.

Lewis Hamilton has thereafter declared the FIA’s decision as a joke and has stood behind Verstappen on this matter. Hamilton then suggested the Dutchman to forfeit community service duties, which was the punishment for his language.

I think it's a bit of a joke to be honest, this is the pinnacle of the sport, mistakes are made. I certainly wouldn't be doing it [the community service] and I hope Max doesn't do it.

Verstappen and Hamilton share a bond of respect despite having vehemently battled against each other in the past years. The two will start P2 and P3, respectively, in an exciting race at the Marina Bay Street Circuit on Sunday.

Max Verstappen deems qualifying P2 as an ‘amazing result’

Red Bull appeared shaky in their efforts throughout the three practice sessions leading up to qualifying on Saturday in Singapore. However, a thunderous effort by Max Verstappen landed a front-row start for the team in the 62-lap race.

On paper, this is not a good track on the calendar for us, and we do have our limitations on the pace, so this gives us a lot of hope in the coming races that we can do well. To come out and finish where we did today is an amazing result for qualifying.
Max Verstappen said after the qualifying session on Saturday

Verstappen has talked of the Milton-Keynes-based team’s persistent disadvantages around the challenging Marina Bay circuit. He then clarified that the outfits’ efforts in clinching P2 were an amazing result provided their hindrances.

The Dutch driver has failed to win in any of the last seven races. He leads the drivers’ championship by 59 points but currently faces a major threat from his rivals. Verstappen will therefore seek to secure the win in Singapore to break Red Bull’s ongoing tough run.
