Mercedes’ upturn in performance was not visible at the 2024 US GP. Both Silver Arrows, despite decently concluding the sprint session, were unable to fare well during the main race. Lewis Hamilton suffered from a Q1 elimination during qualifying and a DNF during the race after committing a rookie mistake.
Lewis Hamilton‘s Q1 elimination saw massive backlash from the fans. Moreover, George Russell‘s crash during the Q3 session and pit-lane start was further salt in the team’s wounds. Hamilton was still trying to move up the pecking order on the track but was unable to overcome the drivers ahead of him. The 39-year-old beached his car at Turn 19.
Lewis Hamilton immediately took to the team radio to apologize for the disappointing end to his US GP. Following the incident in America, Hamilton’s standing in the drivers’ championship will take a massive hit. Mercedes’ woeful American weekend continues as Russell faces difficulty in moving up the pecking order as well.
Sorry guys.
Lewis Hamilton said on the team radio.
HAMILTON IS OUT!

What does Lewis Hamilton’s DNF in the US GP mean for the remainder of the 2024 season?
Lewis Hamilton’s DNF at the US GP might have the driver face a lot of trouble. Primarily, Hamilton’s lead over George Russell of 19 points will take a massive hit. Both the Silver Arrows will come close in terms of points and clash heads towards the end of the season. The Briton’s hopes of ending the season on a ‘high’ with Mercedes might also go to ruins.

The US GP allowed Hamilton to overcome Max Verstappen for the most race wins on American soil. However, with the DNF, the Briton is unlikely to achieve this feat anytime soon. Moreover, Mercedes’ running against Ferrari will take a massive hit after both drivers fail to score great points.
Mercedes’ recent upturn in performance made people hope for a better outcome for the team in America. Hamilton’s woeful 2024 season performances continue towards the end of the season. The seven-time world champion will have to work much harder than his current form to improve his place in the pecking order.
