The Briton is now set to race for the Scuderia this coming season, ditching Mercedes after 12 years. Now, Hamilton reflected on his initial shock after signing a contract with the Italian constructor.
Lewis Hamilton suffered from a streak of woeful performances in recent years due to Mercedes’ mediocre pace. The German carmaker couldn’t produce a championship-winning challenger in the ground-effect era. Hamilton still secured a two-year deal with Brackley before jumping ship to the Italian constructor.
The 40-year-old had recently revealed that he was utterly dumbfounded after finalizing his contract on the call. Hamilton added that his recently signed deal with Mercedes came to his mind after finishing talks with Ferrari. The Briton reflected on the time and highlighted that the situation was ‘a lot’ to take in for him as he felt very emotional that day.

Racing for Ferrari is an unrealized dream of almost every driver in Formula 1. Lewis Hamilton received this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and seized it immediately. The 40-year-old recalled that he had to go out for a walk after finalizing a deal with the Scuderia. Hamilton believed that his move to Maranello would reimagine the future and what dreaming really meant. Hence, racing for the Italian constructor was one of his biggest dreams at the pinnacle of motorsport which he finally achieved.

I honestly had to go for a walk. My eyes felt really calm and present. [But] this is the right thing for me. We’re in a time of reimagining the future, reimagining what really dreaming is about. I’m going to Ferrari, man, and that’s the biggest dream.

Ferrari has secured a great performance improvement in recent years and looks promising for championship contention.
