Everybody spoke about 2 stop and even 3 stop. The tyre felt good. There were no guys ahead of me. It was like I was in a simulator, and thought the one stop could work.

Russell started the race in P6 after a lackluster qualifying session in the rain for Mercedes. However, the British driver kept his head down and performed persistently, ultimately earning a hard-fought win at Spa.

The 26-year-old claimed he found a good, long-lasting grip on the fresh set of hard tires after the first pit stop. He then judged the handling of his W15 around clean air and was confident of going till the very end which ended up being the best decision for him on Sunday.
