Lewis Hamilton is a man of many interests apart from just racing in Formula 1. The Briton had recently revealed his deep interest in gaming, especially in gaming consoles like the PlayStation. With the multiple formalities at Ferrari, Hamilton might not be able to play as much as during the off-season. Regardless, Ferrari’s reserve driver Zhou Guanyu spilled the beans on the seven-time champion’s favorite games on the PS5.
Away from the track, both Lewis Hamilton and Zhou Guanyu are avid gamers, but with different interests. In a recent interview, Guanyu talked about the specifics of the gaming interests of Hamilton. The Chinese driver pointed out that the 40-year-old had a very different genre of games that he liked. Not only that, but the Briton also preferred to play on a completely different gaming platform than the 25-year-old.
Guanyu highlighted that Hamilton was more in FPS games like Call of Duty. However, the 40-year-old preferred to play these games on a console, specifically the PlayStation or the PS5. The Chinese disclosed that the seven-time champion also carried the console with him around the world, to indulge in some relaxing gaming sessions during intense race weekends. On the contrary, Zhou Guanyu preferred to play computer games, especially Counter-Strike.
I think Lewis plays different games to me. I think he’s more into Call of Duty and uses the PlayStation a lot, carrying it around the world. I’m more into computers as a Counter-Strike guy.

Zhou Guanyu is not only a great lover of FPS games like Counter Strike but he has also dabbled in playing these games competitvely. While the exact results from the driver aren’t available, he revealed a funny fact about playing them. Guanyu revealed that he did not practice much and directly competed at the top level in Counter Strike.

Guanyu pointed out that he played against multiple world champions in the CS tournament. The 25-year-old funnily claimed that playing competitvely without any prior experience was like a fan driving next to Lewis Hamilton in Formula 1. This meant that proper practice and understanding of the game was required to play competively, which the Chinese couldn’t do well. Zhou insisted that the was extremely nervous but played decent against the highly trained competitors against him.
I went straight to the biggest Counter-Strike event, playing in the final stages with multiple world champions, It was a bit like an F1 fan driving a car next to Lewis, that was my feeling! I was very nervous… I wanted to make sure I did well, because I love the game – I wasn’t too bad!

Guanyu highlighted that in such a short time he had already built a good relationship with Hamilton. The 25-year-old believed that the Briton was extremely easy-going and felt like a natural teammate to one. The Chinese further complimented the 40-year-old and labeled him a very ‘humble’ person who did not hesitate to ask any questions. The reserve driver added that the seven-time champion always asked the team for information in any situation and didn’t feel bad in doing so.
He just feels like a team-mate of yours – it’s as simple as that. It’s actually very easy, Lewis is a very humble guy, always asking the team for a lot of information.
Zhou Guanyu explained
Guanyu seems to have settled in well at Ferrari after facing some challenging years in Formula 1 with Stake. The Italian constructor might require a reserve driver as the 25-year-old could prove his worth to the grid. Regardless, for now the Chinese will continue to build good relations with the people in the team and help them gain crucial information with the simulator testing. Hamilton on the other hand would shift his focus to performing well as he could play games during the off-season in the pinnacle of motorsport.
