Daniel Ricciardo was recently axed by RB to make way for Liam Lawson this year. The New Zealander had already managed a great debut in the 2023 season after he replaced the injured Ricciardo for five races. Hence, amidst the second chance at the pinnacle of motorsport, the Kiwi anticipates the challenge to be much like climbing a mountain.
Liam Lawson‘s short but impressive debut enabled him to lurk in the shadows of Formula 1 and ultimately amass a seat at RB. Lawson initially thanked all the people who stuck with him over the years. Additionally, he noted that this had been his childhood dream and hoped to perform well in the six remaining races.
To everybody who’s stuck with me for all the years leading up to this, thank you. Obviously it’s a huge journey and, for me, this is what I’ve dreamed of doing since I was a kid.
Liam Lawson told Newstalk ZB radio station
Lawson believed that amassing the Formula 1 seat was just the first step and anticipated the tough task of performing well. The 22-year-old hopes to perform well enough to manage a great end to the 2024 season and amass a full-time seat with RB for 2025. The Kiwi ‘appreciated’ all the help and wanted this to be his official start in Formula 1.
Obviously now we have another mountain to climb going into the season and hopefully driving next year as well. Hopefully this is the start of F1 for me, but I just want to say thank you to everybody, because I appreciate it a lot.

Liam Lawson ‘more prepared’ for the upcoming US GP than last time
Liam Lawson joined the grid in 2023 starting with the Dutch GP and performed well from the get-go. Hence, he isn’t exactly afraid of starting his 2024 season in Austin. The Kiwi had already spent extended time on the simulator and believed that he was ‘more prepared’ for the US GP this time around.
It’s going to be tough to jump in. Austin I haven’t done before, either, so even though I’ve done plenty of sim work it’s going to be a big challenge. I would say I’m better prepared, definitely more prepared this year than I was last year.

RB’s performance in the 2024 season has been tumultuous with Yuki Tsunoda maximizing performance until now. The team must work hard and provide Lawson with the best possible setup to perform well in the coming races. RB has to fend off Haas for the sixth spot in the constructors’ championship after the difference was cut down to just three points.
