Lewis Hamilton‘s struggle in Formula 1 in the 2025 season was certainly one of the lowest points in his life. Despite consistent efforts and motivation, Hamilton was unable to come out of the performance slump. However, the seven-time champion became a massive reminder for people all around the world to never give up and keep trying.

Now, Manchester United’s caretaker boss, Michael Carrick, credits Lewis Hamilton for serving as a motivation to the team during their woeful days in Soccer. Notably, Carrick is serving as an interim manager at United until they appoint a permanent manager. However, his time leading the team has remained far from ideal, and he continues to face defeat, much like Hamilton at Ferrari in 2025.

As such, Michael Carrick funnily revealed how he always talks about Lewis Hamilton and his quotes while facing defeat at Manchester United. Carrick asserted that the people in the team were certainly sick of hearing the same quotes. However, the interim manager recalled the ‘unbelievable’ quote from the F1 legend and how it served as a constant source of motivation.

Michael Carrick revealed how Lewis Hamilton claimed that if he were comfortable in an F1 car, he wasn’t driving fast enough. As such, Carrick believed that not being comfortable while giving it their all was a positive sign, rather than a negative one. The 44-year-old pointed out that if one was comfortable with their condition, it meant that they were not pushing hard enough.

I used to say this to the lads at Middlesbrough all the time, They’re probably sick of me saying it. I’ve seen a quote from Lewis Hamilton, [an] unbelievable quote saying, ‘If I feel comfortable in the car, I’m not driving fast enough.’ Don’t you ever be comfortable because if you’re comfortable you’re not pushing enough.

Michael Carrick told the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast.

Lewis Hamilton pointed out that Ferrari’s priority over the test session was to get as much mileage and knowledge from the engine as possible. Moreover, Hamilton revealed that his role was to listen as much as possible to the engineers and come together to talk about the problems and shortcomings. However, he is feeling much more positive already and hopes to tackle all the remaining problems on the final day of testing.

For us it’s still to continue and try to get as much mileage and knowledge on this engine, and on the car, on the aero side. My role is to listen as much as possible, at the end of the day we both come together and we both talk about our problems, the positives and the negatives, and we’ll come up with a plan of what we want to tackle tomorrow as our last day.

Lewis Hamilton told Sky Sports F1.

The 2026 season will be extremely exciting as all teams gear up for the massive challenge under new regulations. Ferrari has to work hard to ensure that they return to their winning ways. For now, the testing sessions will be crucial as they will set their pace for the remainder of the season, and even the remainder of the regulations.
