Max Verstappen‘s defensive tactics against Lando Norris during the Mexican GP drew criticism from numerous drivers and pundits. The Dutchman forced Norris off the track, an action deemed dangerous by the stewards, resulting in penalties.

Former F1 driver turned pundit Martin Brundle expressed concern over Verstappen’s aggressive maneuvers during the race in Mexico. After the race, the 65-year-old shared his opinion on the incident between Max Verstappen and Norris.

Verstappen basically received two penalties, one for pushing the Brit and another for taking advantage by going off the track. Martin Brundle acknowledged that while Verstappen’s driving was disappointing, it still left him in awe.

Brundle particularly focused on the second penalty, criticizing the reigning world champion’s approach. He explained that the Dutchman approached Lando Norris impulsively. Brundle pointed out that Verstappen simply kept his foot on the throttle and carelessly approached the 24-year-old.

The next one is just a red mist moment and actually a ridiculous moment. He just left his foot on the throttle and has taken the pair of them off. I’m so in awe of Max and I hate it when he does that sort of thing because he’s better than that. He’s too good to drive like that. But I honestly think that was a short-fuse, a red mist.

Martin Brundle believes Max Verstappen is carrying some sort of ‘frustration’

At the start of the season, Max Verstappen had the fastest car and indicated that he would replicate his impressive 2023 performance. However, as the season progressed, Red Bull encountered a series of problems with its car that affected its pace.

This shift resulted in the Dutchman consistently finishing behind McLaren, which developed its car’s speed and became the fastest on the grid. Ferrari also made significant improvements, further complicating Red Bull’s position in the constructors’ standings.

As a result, the Milton Keynes-team dropped from first to third in the standings, leaving Verstappen frustrated. Martin Brundle believes that this may have contributed to the three-time world champion’s aggressive driving in Mexico.

I think he’s carrying some frustration because he’s got third fastest car on track at the moment. Yes, there is that to it. But we know he’s feisty, we know he’s aggressive.

Martin Brundle explained

Max Verstappen sits 47 points ahead of Lando Norris in the drivers’ standings. He admitted he won’t make things easy for Norris in the next four races, promising to give his best to defend his title.
