Lewis Hamilton‘s recent few race weekends have been extremely disappointing. The Briton, who was expected to return Ferrari to its lost glory, is finding it difficult to make it into top-ten finishes consistently. Hamilton couldn’t help but remain very self-deprecating as he hopes to recover from the massive performance slump. Ex-F1 driver, Martin Brundle, weighs in on the seven-time champion’s feelings after enduring a difficult weekend in Hungary and also about his late-race incident with Max Verstappen.
Lewis Hamilton‘s performance in his debut year at Ferrari is full of setbacks. The 40-year-old seems to struggle the most during the qualifying sessions on Saturday. Moreover, Hamilton is unable to recover from the slump even after finishing the first half of the 2025 season. While the Briton has remained vocal about the unexpected issues he continues to face, the performance seems to get only worse.
Martin Brundle isn’t too happy with Lewis Hamilton’s self-loathing behavior ever since he joined Ferrari. During the Hungarian GP, Hamilton was involved in a late-race incident with Max Verstappen, which was supposed to be investigated after the race. Even though Verstappen was irritated by the investigation, he attended and put forth his side of the story. Meanwhile, the 40-year-old did not even bother to show up as the Dutchman avoided any unexpected penalties post-race.
Speaking on Lewis Hamilton’s absence in the stewards’ room, Martin Brundle revealed that the former did not even want to contest the incident and conceded it via Ferrari. However, Verstappen did attend the investigation and put forth his case, which helped him not receive a penalty. Hamilton’s absence in the matter can be taken in many ways, as Brundle reckoned that it wasn’t a good sign for Ferrari.
He (Lewis Hamilton) didn’t want to contest the incident and conceded via his team, but Max did attend the meeting with a rational explanation from his viewpoint, and avoided a penalty.

Martin Brundle labels Lewis Hamilton’s woes as ‘painful’
Lewis Hamilton is way off the championship lead to Oscar Piastri as his chances to even contend for the title by the end of the season are slim to none. Although the 40-year-old hopes not to give up this season, his priority has shifted to the 2026 season and winning then. Still, the summer break this year would provide Hamilton with a great break from the difficult outing in recent weeks.

Martin Brundle shared his opinion on Lewis Hamilton’s woes with Ferrari in the 2025 season. He pinpointed that it was ‘painful’ to witness such a state of Hamilton at Maranello. The 66-year-old noted that the fans could only hope that he recovers from the slump as soon as possible. However, keeping in mind the seven-time champion’s current state, Brundle couldn’t witness the 40-year-old endure two more seasons like this in Formula 1.
It’s painful to observe this great champion in so much strife, and we have to expect that he can weather the storm and return to form given his talent and experience. But otherwise I simply can’t see him enduring two more seasons at Ferrari, or anywhere else, like this.
Lewis Hamilton added
The 2025 season only has ten races left, as Hamilton would definitely want to end the season immediately. Ferrari’s performance has not been up to the mark this year, as they will have to work very hard for the upcoming regulations in 2026. For now, the team’s focus would be to help the 40-year-old end the season on a positive note and end his self-deprecating comments within the team.
