F1 pundit Martin Brundle has reminisced on the past battles between Red Bull driver Max Verstappen and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton. The two drivers have battled it out robustly over the years in chase of the world championship title.

Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton‘s rivalry took a sharp turn during the 2021 season as the title hung in the balance until the last race of the season. It was ultimately the Dutchman who secured the title, though in a controversial manner. The Brit was left in tatters, having lost out on his eighth F1 title on the very last lap.

The most unpleasant time I’ve known in all these years of commentating was Abu Dhabi 2021, and 2021 in general, because it became so feisty, so aggressive between Mercedes and Red Bull.

Verstappen is currently in the lead of the 2024 drivers’ championship with three races to go. While he focuses on winning his fourth title, Hamilton preps to begin a new era at Ferrari.

Verstappen admitted that the team was clueless in finding pace in their car before Brazil. Having started the race in P17, the Dutchman did not have high expectations in Sao Paolo. However, tricky conditions during the 69-lap race enabled the 27-year-old to show his class and take the win.

I wanted to, of course, win a bit sooner – it’s been tough for us. We always kept pushing. We didn’t really understand why the others were so fast in the race, especially. I’ve been trying a lot of things to improve the car, and starting P17 [in Brazil], didn’t look like we were going to win the race again.

Red Bull trails McLaren and Ferrari in the constructors’ championship heading into the Las Vegas GP. The team will therefore look to put forward their best efforts to win here on to try and secure that title too.
