Max Verstappen has publicly hit out at British media in recent weeks. The Dutch driver has claimed that British bias has led to negative coverage against him in his battle with Lando Norris for the 2024 world title. Now, F1 pundit Martin Brundle has hit back against Verstappen’s comments.

After Verstappen’s win in Brazil, the 27-year-old took a hilarious dig at British media for not being present in the post-race conference. This came at a time when Max Verstappen felt that the media was more inclined towards British drivers including Lando Norris.

However, Brundle has now claimed that he does not feel that is the case. The former F1 driver highlighted that the Sky F1 feed is broadcasted across the world despite being based in Britain. Moreover, Martin Brundle reckoned that F1 commentators like him were not even close to how biased a coverage gets at events such as the Olympics or the FIFA World Cup.

I’m a former British F1 driver, and we’re broadcasting primarily to a British broadcaster. Others take our feed all the way around the world. When I watch the Olympics or the World Cup or the European Cup, obviously, your commentators are fervently pro whichever country they’re from. I don’t think we do that.

Martin Brundle reveals no driver has ‘thanked’ him for F1 coverage

The Sky F1 presenter has been covering the pinnacle of motorsport for many years now. Although, Brundle mentioned that no driver has ever thanked him for any particular comment. He mentioned that once Nico Rosberg came to thank him, but only because the German’s mother had asked him to. As Rosberg himself didn’t know what he was thanking Martin Brundle for. As such, the Briton pointed out that no driver has really complimented his coverage.

Nobody ever comes up to you and says, ‘Thank you very much for what you said about us…’ Nico Rosberg said, ‘I’d like to thank you for what you said about me last weekend.’ I said, ‘If you don’t mind, what did I say that you liked? Just for my reference?’ He said, ‘I don’t know. My mum told me I needed to thank you.’

Martin Brundle recalled

Certainly, F1 is a controversial sport where the question of bias always exists. Max Verstappen’s remarks have brought this to the limelight recently. However, it seems that Brundle and his team will not be changing their ways at least for the foreseeable future.
