Lando Norris has surprisingly clinched the title lead from his teammate Oscar Piastri following his impressive results in the recent races. Piastri is dealing with problems of his own and has been unable to maintain his winning pace.

As such, with just four races to go, Norris is leading the campaign with just a single point over the Aussie. Now, ex-F1 driver Martin Brundle reckons that the Briton can win the title easily if he keeps driving in an ‘overdrive mode’.

Lando Norris put forth a highly dominant drive at the Mexican GP and clinched the title lead from Oscar Piastri, who is suffering from a woeful slump. Norris now has to keep up with this pace and keep beating his Aussie counterpart.

McLaren’s performance is clearly more dominant than the rest of the grid, but Piastri’s mysterious lack of pace is causing him trouble in emerging as a winning force. As such, amid the 24-year-old’s struggles, Martin Brundle suggests to the Briton how to win the title this year.

Martin Brundle recalled the Mexican weekend and insisted that it was indeed an outstanding weekend for the latter. Brundle reckoned that if Lewis Hamilton or Max Verstappen were to perform like this, it wouldn’t be such a big deal. However, Norris was showing great signs of improvement and thus was definitely a strong contender to fight for the title this year.

Further, Martin Brundle pointed out that the main contenders for a driver’s title usually find an overdrive gear and dominate the races to ultimately win the championship. This was the case with Lando Norris this time around, and his performance at the Mexico GP proved that he indeed found the overdrive gear. Now, the Briton would have a relatively easier time winning the title if he can keep up with this newfound positive pace.

I thought it was an outstanding weekend for Lando, If we’d have seen that kind of performance from Max or Lewis, we’d have talked about it in hushed tones because it was outstanding. You often hear me talk about, when I’ve commentated on championship showdowns, that one or more of the combatants, the main participants, seem to find an overdrive gear somehow. And that was Lando’s overdrive.

Martin Brundle labels Lando Norris’ Mexico GP outing as ‘perfect’

Lando Norris emerged as the most dominant driver on the grid at the Mexico GP following his grand slam victory on Sunday. The Briton achieved a great pole position and was poised for a race win from that point forward.

Norris drove like a champion on Sunday and hence proved to everyone that he equally deserved to win the driver’s title in the 2025 season. As such, Martin Brundle compared the 25-year-old’s performance with Max Verstappen’s and christened his outing with an impressive title.

Martin Brundle pointed out that Max Verstappen was always in an overdrive mode and hence was a great driver. But Lando Norris’ great defense on Lap 1 after starting from pole position, and then heading off into the distance, was simply perfect from his end.

He showcased no signs of slowing down and did not make even the tiniest error. As such, the Mexico GP dominance was exactly what the 25-year-old needed, especially at this point in the title fight.

Max seems to have the overdrive engaged at all times. But I just thought that qualifying lap, the perfect start, defending into the most difficult first corner of the year, heading off into the distance was just perfect, and just the sort of statement and confidence booster he needs right now.

Martin Brundle noted.

The 2025 season still has four races to go, and the driver’s title battle is far from over. The top three drivers, namely, Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, and Max Verstappen, are still in the fight for the coveted championship win. Hence, it will be extremely exciting to witness which driver comes out on top at the end. For now, Norris seems to be the favorite following his positive outings recently.
