Max Verstappen endured a season filled with massive ups and downs in 2025. The Dutchman began the year off in decent form, but lost all performance mid-way through the year.
Then, Verstappen managed a shocking resurgence in pace and ultimately finished the season with the most amount of wins over the year. Now, the 28-year-old looks back upon his time in the 2025 season and coins it with a hilarious title.
At the beginning of the 2025 season, Max Verstappen managed a decent pace throughout and picked off two race wins. However, since then, the Dutchman suffered from a drastic performance drop in races and couldn’t keep up with his winning ways.
Verstappen had given up on the title hopes, claiming that his results did not matter anymore. At its peak, the 28-year-old was adrift from the title lead by 104 points, which he cut down to just two points behind Lando Norris after losing the title in Abu Dhabi.
As such, Max Verstappen pointed out the obvious and claimed that the 2025 season had been a massive rollercoaster for him. The four-time champion recalled how the first half of the year had some nice moments. However, it all turned around, and there were some really tough races and feelings mid-way through the year.
It’s been a massive rollercoaster for us, Of course, the first half [of the year] had some nice moments, but mainly tough moments and some really tough races and feelings.
Max Verstappen said, as reported by RacingNews365.
Regardless, Max Verstappen was proud of the fact that he and Red Bull never gave up, no matter the circumstances. The Dutchman claimed that it was a lesson for everyone to never give up, even when things played out against their favor in anything in their life. Verstappen insisted that one needed to keep working hard and try to understand the issues in the hope that they could one day turn around their entire situation.
But I am very proud of how we never gave up, and it is also a lesson for the future, for everyone, that even when it looks like you’re out of it, you never give up. You keep working hard to try and understand your issues, and then you never know what can happen.

Max Verstappen hoped for “something to pop up” at the Abu Dhabi GP
Max Verstappen headed into the Abu Dhabi GP as one of the favorites to win the title against McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. The Dutchman was just 12 points behind Norris and needed the latter to finish outside the podium to seal his title win. However, the race was pretty ordinary, and Norris was able to achieve an impressive P3 finish to ultimately cement his 2025 season victory.

Despite losing the 2025 driver’s title by just two points, Max Verstappen joked that he hoped for something to pop up in terms of a yellow flag or safety car at the Abu Dhabi GP.
Though not winning the title, Verstappen still managed a stellar win in Abu Dhabi and achieved a perfect finish to his year. The Dutchman accepted that losing the title by just two points was all part of Formula 1, and hence he wasn’t too fussed about it.
I just kept looking at the screens to see if something would pop up, The race itself went really well, and I was just enjoying sitting in the car and driving it. And every straight you keep looking if something happens, but at the same time, that’s part of racing. So I was not really too fussed about it.
Max Verstappen noted.
The end of the 2025 season marked the end of the ground-effect era, which had been extremely successful for Max Verstappen. The Dutchman tried his level best to win the title this year, but unfortunately, it wasn’t in the cards for the 28-year-old. Regardless, he will return in the 2026 season with a much better form and hopes to return to his dominant ways in Formula 1.
