Max Verstappen faced scrutiny after his performance at the Mexican GP, where he received two 10-second penalties for incidents involving Lando Norris. His on-track maneuvers, particularly those with Norris, sparked a wave of commentary from the motorsport community.
Many people shared biased opinions against Verstappen, claiming his actions were a harsh move in his quest to defend the world title. Despite the criticism, the Dutchman stated that he wouldn’t change his aggressive driving style.
Verstappen’s driving style against Norris has drawn a parallel to that of Kimi Raikkonen from his time in Formula 1. Like Raikkonen, Verstappen is known for his fearless and uncompromising approach to racing.
Both drivers are masters of late braking, often diving into corners at the last possible moment, and are not afraid to take risks to gain an advantage. The Iceman demonstrated his aggressive driving style at the 2005 Japanese GP against Fernando Alonso.
Driving for McLaren, Raikkonen made daring overtakes with little room for error and won the race, boosting his chances in the World Championship title fight. Just like that, Max Verstappen faced scrutiny for his aggressive driving style.
Verstappen was penalized twice for incidents involving Norris, including one where he forced the McLaren driver off the track. He faced heavy criticism for this. However, the Red bull driver emphasized that throughout his ten-year F1 career, he’s always faced criticism, but it no longer affects him.
