Max Verstappen, the three-time world champion, has not been able to hit the ground running around at the 2024 Canadian GP. He did not have the smoothest of FP1 session and his FP2 outing was cut short after he incurred an issue on his RB20.
During the FP2 sessions, Max Verstappen was out on track when all of a sudden, the RB20 started emitting smoke from the rear. Moreover, the Dutchman’s cockpit got quite hot and he carefully brought his challenger back into the pits.

The inicdent took place during the intial part of FP2 and after that, Verstappen was not able to take part further in the session.
It's not ideal, I would have liked to have driven more laps. But I think it's more important to figure what happened, and what the implications are for this weekend and the rest of the year.Max Verstappen said in an interview with F1 journalist, Adam Cooper

The 26-year-old has made it known that he would have ideally, preferred to have driven more for laps than what he managed during Friday’s running. Sergio Perez confident of Red Bull’s chances at the Canadian GP
While Verstappen had a pretty odd day around the Gilles-Villeneuve circuit, his Red Bull teammate, Sergio Perez also flew a bit under the radar. The Mexican was not able to set the timing sheets alight in his mighty RB20.

Moreover, the 34-year-old was only able to manage a tenth place finish at the end of FP2.
I think we were able to make good progress in our preparation with the inters, it was the most positive thing of the day. On the soft tyre we were not running at the right time on the right temperature, so there is not much to read there, but tomorrow we will know exactly where we are. I am confident that we will be competitive.Sergio Perez said in the post FP2 interview
Via his comments, the six-time Grand Prix winner has talked about several things that hindered Red Bull’s progress during Friday’s running. However, going ahead, he has indirectly deemed the FP3 session as a vitally crucial one for his team. Rain is expected to play a part in FP3 and Qualifying and thus, Red Bull has an uphill task ahead of them for the rest of the Canadian GP weekend.
