Red Bull has started to face massive struggles in terms of performance mid-way through the 2024 season. Milton Keynes is no longer the most dominant team on the grid amidst McLaren’s pace improvement. Max Verstappen has continued to showcase impressive results despite the performance slump. Hence, the Dutchman put forth his thoughts about the main race in Hungary.

Max Verstappen tried his level best to achieve the pole position for the Hungarian GP. However, the 26-year-old was just over 0.05s behind the pole-sitter Lando Norris. Verstappen reckoned that P3 was still very close and hoped to have a great chassis setup for the race. Additionally, the reigning world champion noted that he loved competition and wanted to be on top of it.

P3 is still very close, just have to hope the car is good in the race. I love competition, but I would like to be on top of the competition.
Max Verstappen said during the post-session interview.

Apart from this, Verstappen commented on the team’s degrading form in recent times and noted that the team had to chase for victory. Regardless, he reckoned that he didn’t back down from the fight. However, the conditions were trickier as the Dutchman anticipated a great battle for victory.

At the moment I feel we are chasing, and I don't back out of a fight but it's trickier I guess.

Max Verstappen claims Red Bull ‘can’t pinpoint’ reason behind degrading form

Red Bull has continued to bring in major upgrades to the RB20 in hopes of improving performance. Regardless, the team has failed to have the fastest chassis on the grid during races. Max Verstappen’s performances have enabled the team to gain a great knowledge about the shortcomings.

However, Verstappen reckoned that he tried his best the entire Hungarian weekend and still lacked performance. Red Bull was unable to pinpoint the underlying reason for this failure in performance.

I tried. The whole weekend we have been behind. I tried to make it as close as possible but just not enough. We just can't pin-point why that is.
Max Verstappen noted

The competition has never been closer during the ongoing ground-effect era. Hence, the 2024 season promises great excitement for the fans and the drivers alike. It will be extremely exciting to witness how the remainder of the season pans out for Red Bull against the rival outfits.
